Do you like to listen to music when you feel sad? Do you like to sing songs in the shower? Music is everywhere. But in many countries, music classes in schools are losing their place.

These days, because of the bad economy (经济) in the US, some schools fired (解雇) arts teachers including (包括) music teachers. Some students don’t have the chance to learn music. I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat doing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.

Years later, during her final illness, mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,” she would say again, “it’s for Elizabeth. ”
