I’m Phileas Fogg. One day I read in the n1. that a railway had opened in India and people could now travel around the world in 80 days. My friends bet (打赌) me $20,000 that I couldn’t travel around the world in 80 days. I must be back on 21 December if I wanted to win the money. I got to Bombay on time but f2. the rail way was not finished yet, so I rode an elephant i3. I was arrested by the police on the s4. to Hong Kong, but I got away. My train to New York was attacked so I m5. the ship to England. Then I was late and had to take a6. boat to England. I thought I was late and couldn’t get the money. H7., I had crossed the dead line and I still had one m8.day!

I was now five, and still I showed no much interest in things except with my toes. My father took care of me. I could not look after myself, so I used to lie on my back all the time in the kitchen. I felt ____because I was imprisoned(监禁) in a world of my own, not able to communicate with others.

Then, suddenly it happened on the afternoon of a cold December day. All the family were gathered round the big kitchen fire. Mona and Paddy were drawing funny animals, using a bright piece of yellow chalk. It was the chalk that ____me so much because I had never seen anything like it before.

Suddenly, I wanted to do what my sister was doing. Then without thinking or knowing exactly what I was doing. I reached out and took the chalk out of my sister’s hand, with my left foot. It was a puzzle (迷惑 )to many people as well as to me. I held the ___ tightly between my toes and made a wild scribble(乱涂)with it on the board. Next moment I stopped not knowing what to do with the chalk next, hardly knowing how it got there. Then I looked up and realized that everyone was looking at me ____. My mother came in. Her eyes looked from my face down to my ____ , then she took another piece of chalk from Mona and drew the single letter"A "on the floor in front of me. "Copy that, Christy. " She said. I tried to do the same action, but I ____ ."Try again, Christy. " she whispered in my ear. I tried another two more times. I drew one side of the letter, then the other. It looked ugly, but I ____ to make it finally. I had done it! True! I couldn’t speak with my mouth, but now I would speak through something more lasting than spoken words. That one letter was my ___ to a new world, my key to mental(精神的) freedom.
