In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution(污染). They join “environment(环境) clubs ”. (1)In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean. Here are some things students often do.

Turn off the water! Did you know that some toilets(厕所) can waste(浪费) 20 to 40 m3 of water an hour? In a year, that would fill a small river! In environment clubs, students mend(修理) those broken toilets.

You may know that more people drink coffee than tea around the world. And that,after oil, it is the second biggest traded commodity(商品).You may also know that the drink comes from beans whichare first roasted and then ground(研磨). But what else do you know about this popular drink?
It is said that the story of coffee started with an Ethiopian(埃塞俄比亚) sheepherd named Kaldi. One day Kaldi was surprised to see that his goats were behaving very strangely. Instead of eating grass quietly, they were jumping around, almost dancing. He also noticed some red“cherries”from aplant that the goats wereeating. He tried some himself and was surprised by the feeling of extreme happiness and excitement. He felt like dancing too!

From Ethiopia, coffee was laterplanted in Yemen and the first hot drink was developed there around AD 1000. Three centuries later，drinking coffee became popular among Muslims(穆斯林) and as Islam spread, so did coffee. Coffee houses appeared in Cairo and Mecca.
For hundreds of years the plants were protected safely. But some beans were smuggled(偷运) and taken to India. In the 17th century, coffee was soon grown in other places. From India toIndonesia, a century later the beans were once again smuggled to Brazil.Brazil is now the largest coffeeproducer in the world.
It was the caffeine(咖啡因)thatmadethe goats dance and keptthe monks awake. Although it is found in other soft drinks and tea, coffee has the most caffeine.
