【题目】________ my father is very busy, he goes to visit my grandparents often.

A. Because B. Although

C. But D. However

【答案】B

【解析】

句意:虽然我的父亲很忙,但他经常去看望我的祖父母。考查连词辨析。A. Because因为;B. Although虽然、尽管;C. But但是;D. However然而。根据_____ my father is very busy, he goes to visit my grandparents often.“虽然我的父亲很忙,但他经常去看望我的祖父母。”可知,前后存在一种相反的让步关系,所以应用Although引导让步状语从句;故答案选B。

【题目】Dear Jane and Bob,

Can you come to my 14th birthday party on Saturday, November 13th? We're having dinner at a restaurant and then having a party at my house. I would like both of you to come if you can. If you need a place to stay for the night, you can sleep on the floor in our sitting room, but bring a sleeping bag, please! Ha! Ha! It's only a joke. If you want to stay at my home for a night, please tell me.

The dinner is at Mama Mia. We can eat Italian food there. It will start at 7:30 p.m. You can take the train at 5:00 p.m. and arrive in my city at 6:45 p.m. Then go to the restaurant by taxi. After dinner, we will have the birthday party at about 9:00 p.m. My mother will make a birthday cake and some snacks for us. I'm sure they will be very delicious. I hear that you have some nice CDs. Hope you can come!

There is not enough oil in the world now. As time goes by, it becomes less and less. So what are we going to do when oil runs out? Perhaps we will go back to use our horses, carriages(马车) and bicycles.

In the Second World War, some people didn't use gas made from petroleum(石油) in their cars. They made gas from wood and plants instead. The car didn't go fast, but they ran, so this was better than nothing. However, in the future, we can't cut down all our trees to make gas; we need our trees for other things, too.

Besides different types of gas, we can also use electricity() to run our cars, but first we must make electricity! Some countries have coal and make electricity with that, but we might not always have coal, either. Other countries have big, strong rivers, and they can use the power of water to turn turbines(涡轮机) and make electricity more easily and cheaply.

We are also able to get power from the ocean tides(海潮). We put turbines into the mouth of the river. When the tide comes in, the water turns the turbines and when it goes out, it turns them again.
