6、The railroad industry could not have grown as large as it did without steel. The first rails were made of iron. But iron rails were not strong enough to support heavy trains running at a high speed. Railroad officials wanted to replace them with steel rails because steel was ten or fifteen times stronger and lasted twenty times longer. 4、The latest United Nations report on the AIDS spread paints a sad picture. It concludes that the regions of the world most affected by AIDS will experience rapid increases in deaths among young adults. This will have serious social and economic results.
