查看习题详情和答案>>A middle school organized a “No TV Week” program. All the teachers, parents and students worked together for this program and most of them found it to be a very good one. The headmaster said, “The idea was not to stop watching TV completely but for the students just to find how much time they watch TV and try to use the time for other things.” What did the students say about this “No TV Week”? One boy said, “I can’t believe I haven’t watch TV for a week, but it’s been fun doing it.” A girl student said, “I’m going to give up all TV program except for ‘Our Animal World’ and other language-teaching program. I’m really pleased that I have more time to do things like walking and thinking. I enjoy this ‘No TV Week’ very much…” But not all the students thought it was good. Here one student Paul said something different, “I don’t like ‘No TV Week’ because I like watching TV. I have lots of favorite programs and I don’t want to miss them. But we have to do it.”

“That test was not only a test of knowledge, but also a test of morality(道德). We wanted to show the students how important honesty(诚实)is,” said the school’s headmaster. Next year, it wants 80% of its exams to be without teachers. But students have different ideas.
“I was happy and excited during the exam because my teachers trusted(信任)me,” said a 15-year –old girl in Class 11.
“Schools must trust students a lot and do not use invigilators(监考人)in exams. But I think it is too early. Some students will cheat(作弊)if there are no invigilators. And the students will not be able to ask for help when they need,” said another student.
“I don’t like having invigilators in exams. When they walk around the classroom, they make me nervous. I would get higher marks without them in the room because I would feel more relaxed,” a third student said.
“I think it’s very important to have invigilators in exams. Many students want to check their answers with each other after they have finished papers. And invigilators can also keep the classroom in order when something unusual happens. They may make me nervous, but I still think we need them,” a girl student said.
No-teacher exams may be a good idea. But before using them, schools must tell students the importance of honesty and try to find ways to solve something unusual in exams.

It’s not easy to be an astronaut’s son.Everybody expects you to be special or perfect. I often wonder how my father ever had a son like me. I mean he’s so special and so good at everything he does. Even in middle school he was class president and captain of the football team.
Well,to be honest,I often dream about being some kind of hero or doing something special—like saving a child from a burning building or discovering a new star. I was daydreaming at school one morning when my teacher said there would be a Father’s Day writing competition for the whole schoo1. “I hope we have a winner right here in my class.”
When I got home,I started to think about what to write. My father is an astronaut. No, I wouldn’t start like that. That was the way others saw him.How did I see my father? Hmm.
I saw him sitting with me in the dark when I had a terrible dream.I remembered how he hugged me for hours when my dog Spotty was killed by a car.Yes,these were the things I was going to write. To me,he wasn’t just a world—famous astronaut. He was my dad.
My parents and I went to school on Thursday night. There were so many people in the big hall! My dad looked at me, and I shrugged(耸肩).
The third prize was announced and it was not me. I was relieved(释然)and disappointed at the same time. The second prize was announced. It was me.
I went up to the stage and read what I had written,“My father’s son”. When I finished, the people stood up and cheered. I saw my father blowing his nose. Tears were running down my mother's face. Dad cleared his throat and put his hand on my shoulder. “Son, this is the proudest moment of my life.’’
It was the proudest moment of my life, too. Maybe I’ll never be a great hero or win a Nobel Prize, but it was enough just to be my father’s son.
