Beijing, but he has not yet been to many other parts of China. Last week he went to Mount Emei in
Sichuan Province with his family.
Many people like to travel by air, but Jim's family think that travelling by train is the best. It is much
cheaper and far more enjoyable than a rushed trip by air.
Early one moming, they took a taxi to Beijing West Railway Station. The station was very lively.
There were bookshops, food shops and stores selling all kinds of things. Mrs Green bought some fruit,
food and bottles of water to take on the train. She said that it was better toget some food before they
got on the train because food on the train was usually too expensive.
The train was quite comfortable, and there weren't too many people in their sleeping car. The Greens
could stand up and walk around. It was a long journey, but none of them felt tired. They kept watching
the beautiful scenery out of the window. They walked, laughed and played cards. The conductor kept
coming to offer them hot water and selling them magazines. People nearby talked with each other. A
young man practiced speaking English with Mr Green. Jim thought the train was like a big moving party.
He went to sleep quite late. He listened to the click of the rails and then fell fast asleep.
When Jim woke up the next morning, the train was already near Chengdu. His train ride seemed really
short, but his memory of the pleasant trip would last long.

Jack and Jim were classmates. They lived in the same town. After they left school, Jack kept a flower shop and Jim became a doctor in a hospital. Jim made a girlfriend. He bought a red rose for her each day to show his love. The flowers made his girlfriend very happy. Sometimes he took the rose to her himself. But when he was very busy in the hospital, he asked Jack to send the rose to her instead of him.
One afternoon, Jim came to the flower shop and said to Jack, “ I will go to another town on business today. So I have no time to give the letter and the flowers to my girlfriend. Please send the letter and twenty-four roses to her”
In the evening, when Jack was busy in the shop, Jim came in and looked very angry. “ Jack, how many roses did you give my girlfriend this morning?”“ I gave her thirty roses.” answered Jack.
“Why did you do that?”
“You often buy flowers in my shop for your girlfriend, so I want to give her six more flowers. What happened then?”
“ How foolish you are!” he threw the letter on the table, “ Read it yourself.” Jack picked it up and began to read:
My dear,
