I was downtown(进城) yesterday, and decided to stop at the bank(银行) to see Alice Green. I thought she might have time to go to lunch with me. When I got to the bank, they told me she had just been out for a few minutes. I asked them if she would be back by 11:30 or 11:45, and they said“yes”. I had some time, so I decided to wait for her. Then I walked over to some chairs by the windows and sat down. I decided to watch the front door because I knew she would come back in that way. I waited and waited, but she didn't come through the door. At last I decided not to wait any longer. It was 12:30, and I was sure that she wouldn't be back until after lunch. The Right Way to Sit

If you are writing or studying, it makes very much difference where the light comes from. People who use books and pens every day have to be specially (特殊地) careful about the way the light shines on their work.

Every house gets its light either from daylight through windows which is the very best to use or from the lamps or electricity; but whichever (无论哪个) kind of light it is, the way it slants (倾斜) towards our books or our work is a matter of great importance to the eyes.

Take a book, stand with your back toward the window, and try to read. Your shadow falls all over the page and makes it almost as bad for your eyes as if you were in a dark room.

Now turn around and face the window. The page is in the shadow again, while the bright light is in your eyes.

Try standing with your right side toward the window. This is very good for reading, but if you were writing, the shadow would fall across the page and bother (干扰) you a little.

There is just one other way: stand with your left side to the window. Now everything is perfect (完美的) for reading and for writing, too.

Whatever (无论什么) kind of light is in the room, the rule about the right way to sit is always the same.

On a cold December morning, my mother and I were walking home from pizza store. We were served
warmly and equipped with the video we had been trying      . I was feeling a little tired      I was carrying our shopping bags of snacks and the video.
They were so     that I decided to throw away some of them. So I started to walk towards the dustbin when I noticed a poor man stepping out of the restaurant in front of us. He held a paper bag with his dirty hand. He headed for another nearby dustbin and started looking      something.
I suddenly felt very upset. I know this man would take all he could get, so I walked up to him and handed the drink and some snacks to him. The man, with lines on his face and wrinkles(皱纹) on his forehead, looked up in     and took what I gave him.
A huge smile spread across his face and this made     feel indescribable satisfaction(满意). I felt like I couldn’t be happier with myself, but then he said, “Wow, first someone gives me this sandwich, then this drink, and now some tasty food, this is my daughter’s      day!”
He thanked me     and started off on his bike. I even heard him whistling(吹哨) a song as he
    away.
I now understand what is meant by the saying “Giving is getting”. Everyone in the world needs help, everyone can      help and everyone will be helped by something kind.
The image(图像) of that man’s happiness caused by my small gift appears in my mind every time I have the chance to do something nice.
