听力录音材料

Text 1 M: what’s the matter, Anne? Do you have a problem?

W: Yes, I have the chance to get another job and I don’t know what to do.

M: If it’s a better job than your present one, take it. That’s my advice.

Text 2 W: Excuse me. Where is the White Swan Hotel?

M: It’s just over there around the corner.

   W: Thank you.

   M: You’ re welcome.

Text 3 M: I’m staying at home. I want to read a book.

W: You’re always reading. You work all the time.

   M: Games are silly.

W: No, they’re not. The headmaster says, “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. ”

Text 4 M: Hello, Mary, this is John Smith from the bank. Is Paul there?

W: Not yet, John. e phoned me from the office 5 minutes ago to say that he was going

to look for a birthday present on his way home.

Text 5 M: Have you got a single room for two nights?

W: Yes. You can have a room facing the sea.

   M: What’s the price?

   W: $ 34 a night with a shower.

Text 6 W: And what seems to be the trouble, sir?

M: They don’t want to let me into the nightclub.

W: Well, I’m afraid there is an entrance charge, sir.

   M: But I am a resident! I live in Room 634.

W: I’m very sorry, sir, but you see it is something of a special evening. Our guest star this evening is Sammy Davis Junior and I’m afraid that the tickets do cost 100 marks each. I could see if there are any left if you would like one. We generally try to keep a few back for the residents.

M: Good Lord. That’s nearly 35 pounds. NO, on second thoughts, I don’t think I’11 bother. Could you have them send up a bottle of Scotch to my room. I’11 entertain myself instead.

W: Very good, sir. That is Room 634,isn’t it?

Text 7 W: Hello, fire service.

M: Oh, I’m ringing because I think there’s a fire in the house opposite. Smoke is coming out of the windows upstairs.

W: Can you give me your name and address and telephone number, please?

M: Yes, Hans Cousins, 17 Mallett Street, Alford.

  W: I’m sorry. Can you spell“Mallett”, please?

  M: Yes. M - A - L- L- E double T. The telephone number is 6943168. The fire’s in number 18 just across the road.

W: Is anyone in the house?

M: No, they’ve gone on holiday. They went to the Mediterranean last Saturday, for two weeks.

W: All right, we’ll get there immediately.

M: What shall I do? Shall I warn the neighbours?

W: Yes, you’d better tell the people living next door, at number 16 and number 20. But don’t go into the house.

Text 8 W: Hello, Jim. Where are you going?

M: Oh, Mary, I’m going to the cinema. What about coming with me?

W: No, thanks. I’m going home. My mother is expecting me.

  M: What a pity. I believe it’s a very good film.

W: Do you go to the cinema a lot?

M: Once a week. Most nights I do my homework at home and sometimes watch TV.

W: Do you know what’s on tonight?

M: No, I’m sorry I don’t. I never read the papers till I get home.

W: I heard there was an excellent film on TV tonight.

M: Oh! What a pity. I’m afraid I’11 miss it.

Text 9 W: Why don’t we go abroad for a change? Where I’d like to go is France, Spain, or Italy.

M: Mm. I’m not all that interested really. I’d rather stay at home.

W: Oh, come on, Simon. Think of the sun!

M: Yes, but think of the cost! Going abroad is very expensive. The best thing about having a holiday here in Britain is that it’s cheaper. And another thing, the traveling would be easier. No boats, planes or anything.

W: Even so, we’ve been to most of the interesting places in Britain already. There’s no point in wasting our summer holiday here.

M: Mm, I suppose you’ re right. However, what I hate is the trouble in changing money

    abroad.

W: Oh, don’t be silly, Simon.

M: And what’s more, I can’t speak any of the languages-you know that. It’s all right for you. You can speak foreign languages.

W: Exactly. You see, what I’d really like to do is to practise my French and Spanish. It would help me a lot at work.

M: Mm, but that’s no use to me.

W: But just think of the new places we’d see, the people we’d meet!

M: But, look, if we stayed here, we wouldn’t have to plan very much.

W: I’m sorry, Simon. I just don’t want another cold English summer.

Text 10 M: This is a true story about a French couple, Paul and Mary, who were in Hong Kong on holiday and went to a restaurant for a meal.

W: They had a meal in their hotel?

M: No, what they did was go to a restaurant. Anyway, they couldn’t speak Chinese or English well, so they had to use sign language to order their meal. Well, this seemed to work all right. The waiter nodded and smiled and started to go to the kitchen.

  W: He understood them.

M: Oh, I forgot to mention they had their pet dog, Rosa, with them and Mary reminded her husband that Rosa was hungry. They called the waiter back and they pointed at the dog, Rosa, and made eating gestures. The waiter didn’t seem to understand and looked puzzled. But in the end he smiled and nodded and picked up the dog and took it into the kitchen. Paul and Mary were satisfied and chatted about their holiday experiences until their food was ready. After about an hour the waiter returned with their main course on a silver dish covered with a large silver lid. You’ll never believe this, but it really happened. When they lifted the silver lid they found their dog inside.

W: Did they eat their meal?

M: No, of course not. What happened was that they both suffered a mild nervous breakdown and took the next plane back to Paris.

W: And that’s a true story? I find it very unlikely to have happened.
