In the US, people prefer waiting for a table to sitting with people they don’t know. This means a hostess may not seat a small group until a small table is available, even if a large one is. In a certain school there was a young fellow who caused all sorts of trouble. He talked back to his teachers, he refused to do his homework, and he was disrespectful to everyone.

Finally, the schoolmaster decided to call the young man's father.
