Miners work under the earth to collect coal. They
have 31
jobs because sometimes the earth sinks or
falls apart (into pieces). When
this happens, miners
are 32
underground. They are covered with earth
and rocks. They will die 33
they don’t have air
to breathe, food to eat, or water
to drink. They cannot
live 34
any of these things for long, but 35 is the most important. It is
difficult to find out where the miners are and 36
them in time. Trapped miners dream of being 37 and don’t give up.
In July 2002, nine 38
went to work in California.
All of a sudden, there was a terrible accident. A wall broke apart and water
flooded the 39 where the
miners were working. The water came
40 to their necks. At
first, the miners shouted,
41 no one could hear
them. 42 , people on the surface(地表)found out where the miners were and dug a
breathing hole. Later, they gave them 43 from their families, which told
them to hold on and never lose heart. Many people 44
helping to save them. After several days’ hard work, they brought
the tired miners to the surface
