1.W: So, Steven, I hear you’re a designer.
M: Yeah, that’s right.
W: Where do you work?
M: For Garden Designs International.
W: Oh, I know that company. It’s in New York, right?
M: Yes, that’s right.
W: So, do you like your job?
M: Yes, it’s very interesting. I get to travel a lot. How about you? What do you do ?
W: Play tennis.
M: Wow! That sounds great.
W: Yeah, it’s really fun.
2.
W: Hello, Bob. You look so happy. Is there any good news?
M: Yes, Mary. My father says he’ll take me to China next week. It’s my first time. Have you ever been there?
W: Yes, I’ve been there three times. How long will you stay there?
M: We’ll have only a ten-day holiday. Father says we can travel only three cities. First we’ll go to Beijing to see a few places of interest for 3 days. And then we’ll go to Shanghai.
W: Why won’t you stay any longer in Beijing? It’s quite a beautiful city with a long history.
M: We know. But father must take part in an important meeting for 2 days in Shanghai. In the end we’ll fly to Guangzhou. We hear the weather is warm and flowers are everywhere there.
W: I wish you would have a good journey.
In our lesson today, we’re going to make a very simple graph. What is a graph? As the picture shows, we need an x-axis and a y-axis. Before the graph is made, some information should be collected. According to the information we get, we can mark some points on the graph. Then we will join these points together to see the change or the movement of something.
Jason went to Britain last month. In order to compare the weather in Britain with that in Hangzhou, he collected some information of the temperature in London. On the graph today, x-axis shows different times of the day, y-axis shows different temperatures. For example, if the temperature at 6 p.m. is 22℃, you can mark a point as the graph shows. Would you please listen to the information Jason collected carefully and mark the points we need?
At 12 p.m. on October15, the middle of the day, the temperature was 18℃. At 6 o’clock in the evening, the temperature goes down to 14℃. At 12 a.m. at midnight, the temperature reaches 10℃. At 6 a.m. on October 16, the temperature was 14℃. At noon, the temperature goes up to 18℃ again.
Now let’s join these points together slowly and smoothly. Then a nice graph is ready.
