I’m 13 years old. My name is Mike Davis. I go to Hope School and I’m in Year One. I’m really interested in science but I find maths and especially English a bit hard. I’m good at running and I’ve run for the school team in the 800 meters.

My Dad sells farm machines. We live in the country about two kilometres from school, so I go to school by bicycle. My uncle has a farm and I spend most of my free time helping out there. I help him with the cows and like to do the milking every Saturday. My uncle’s got a tractor and he says I can’t drive it when I’m 15.

I want to work in the countryside when I leave school. I wouldn’t like to live in a town or sit in an office all day. My father thinks I should work in his business, but I want to be like my uncle and have my own farm one day.

                  C

“I have to live on because life is so beautiful.” These words of one of my patients who suffers from(遭受) SARS continue to ring in my ears. This patient’s whole family has been infected(感染) with SARS--- her mother and brother have already died and her father is still seriously ill. I was deeply moved by her courage(勇气) and understood for the first time in my life the weight of my duty. I have to help others live on.

When I treated my first SARS patient on April 25, my only worry was that my knowledge in treating SARS patients was not enough. Many friends of mine keep asking why I’m not frightened. I think it takes no special courage to treat SARS. It is my duty to save other people’s lives and I was trained to do this. When you see a family suffering from SARS and seriously ill patients worrying about their dying relatives, the only thing you want to do is to try to help them.

I treat SARS patients as ordinary patients, never making them feel they are dangerous. I believe this mental support(精神支柱) is important to those suffering from loneliness and despair(绝望). After a day’s work, when lying in bed at the hospital, the most beautiful sound I want to hear is my two-year-old son’s voice.

66 What do you think does the writer do?

67 What’s the Chinese for the underlined(划线) sentence in the text?

68 What made the writer feel worried when he first treated SARS patients?

69 Where does the writer live during his special work in treating SARS patients?

70 What does the writer think of his work?

                      B

When I opened the first “Body Shop” in 1976, what I wanted to do was to earn(挣) enough money to feed my children. Today “The Body Shop” is a great company growing fast all around the world. In the years since we began, I have learned a lot. Much of what I have learned will be found in this book, because I believe that we, as a company, have something worth saying about how to run a successful business without giving up what you really believe in.

It’s not an ordinary business book. It is not just about my life, either. The message is that to succeed in business you have to be different. Business can be fun, a business can be run with love and it can do good. In business, as in life, I need to enjoy myself, to have a feeling of my family and to feel excited by something unusual. I have always wanted the people who work for “The Body Shop” to feel the same way.

Now this book sends these ideas out into the world, makes them public. I’d like to think there are no limits(界限) to our “family”, no limits to what can be done. I find that an exciting thought. I hope you do, too.

A month ago I had no idea that on a Saturday afternoon in November I would be hanging 39 meters above the ground and enjoying it. Now I looked down on the river far below me, and realized why people like rock-climbing.

My friend Matt and I arrived at the Activity Centre on Friday evening. The accommodation(食宿) wasn’t wonderful, but we had everything we needed, beds, food and so on. And we were pleased to be out of the city in the fresh air.

On Saturday morning we met the other ten members of our group. Cameron had come along with two friends, Kevin and Simon, while sisters Carole and Lynn had come with Amada. We had come from different places and none of knew the area.

We knew we were going to spend the weekend outdoors, but none of us was sure exactly how. Half of us spent the morning caving(钻山洞) while the others went rock-climbing and then we changed at lunchtime. Matt and I went to the cave first.
