A little boy had the job of coming to school early each day to start the fire and warm the room before his teacher and his classmates arrived.

One  1 they arrived to find the schoolhouse was on fire. They dragged(拖) the senseless(无意识的) little boy out of the burning building more dead than alive. The doctor told his mother that her son would surely  2  .

While taking a walk with the professor, who was commonly called the students’ friend, the young man saw lying beside the 16 a coat and a pair of old shoes, 17 ---- he supposed---- belonged to a 18 man who was working in the field nearby.

　　I went into a favorite restaurant of mine one evening to have my meal. I knew the owner very well. 1 I was waiting for the soup to arrive, I looked round to see if I knew anyone in the restaurant. I was assigned to take care of this patient a couple of weeks ago and began to grow closer to her.
