Comic(喜剧的)book superhero Spider-Man uses tiny hairs on his fingertips to climb up walls. But he could have had another secret weapon to help him stick.
Scientists have now found that some spiders can also make silk in their feet, which may sometimes help them get a firmer grip on a surface.
Spiders are good at gripping walls with their legs.Thousands of little hairs on their feet make it possible. To test whether spiders also make these hairs wet to improve grip, scientists watched zebra tarantulas crawl(爬行)up glass slides.
When they tilted a glass slide until it was almost vertical, the spider slipped a few millimeters before attaching itself again. The scientists were surprised to see little threads(线)stretching from its feet to the slide. When they studied the spider’s feet under a special microscope, they found tiny silk-shooting spouts(吐出)among the hairs.
This was a surprise because scientists had previously thought spiders only use special organs near their stomachs to make silk.
It’s possible that, a long time ago, feet were the first body parts of spiders to produce silk.Only later in their evolutionary(进化)history did spiders develop spinnerets on their abdomens(腹部)to produce silk for webs(网).
If so, the researchers say, this could mean that the silk’s original purpose was to , rather than to build homes or trap prey(猎物).

A woman in the US is able to speak for the first time in 11 years after a pioneering voice box transplant (移植) .
Brenda Jensen said the operation was a great success which had saved her life.Thirteen days after the surgery she said her first words: "Good morning, I want to go home."It is the first time a voice box and windpipe have been transplanted at the same time and only the second time a voice box has ever been transplanted.
Ms.Jensen, 52, had been unable to speak on her own since her voice box was damaged during surgery in 1999.Since then, she has been unable to taste or smell food, could breathe only through a hole in her windpipe and could talk only with the help of an electronic voice box.
In October, surgeons at the University of California Davis Medical Centre removed the voice box and 6cm of the windpipe from a donor body.In an 18-hour operation, this was transplanted into Ms.Jensen's throat and the team connected it to her blood supply and nerves (神经).
Professor Martin Birchall from University College London, who was part of the surgery team, said: "We've learned that we can repair nerves to make even very complex organs function again. It'll open the door to better facial transplants and will be extremely important as tissue engineering develops."
A voice box transplant might be life changing, but it is not life saving.Everyone who receives a transplant must take drugs to control the immune system (免疫系统) for the rest of their lives. These drugs can reduce life expectancy, so they are normally set aside for life saving procedures.
One of the reasons Ms.Jensen was a suitable person for this transplant was that she was already taking immune controlling drugs after a kidney-pancreas transplant four years ago.Professor Peter Belafsky , part of the surgical team, said: " Brenda was an exceptional candidate for the transplant because she was highly motivated.Anyone who's met Brenda knows that she is a strong and determined person with a great outlook on life in spite of the many physical challenges she's faced over her lifetime.
63.The voice transplant operation is of great significance because it proves that ____.

D.the drugs taken after the operation help the patient live longer
64.Ms.Jensen was a suitable person for this transplant because she was ____.
A.strong-willed and prepared B.experienced and brave
C.seriously ill and motivated D.determined and realistic

a.Ms.Jensen received a voice box transplant operation.

The time you spend at the office may be the most stressful part of your day, but it doesn’t have to be. You have a greater ability to shape your office environment than you may realize.
Take breaks throughout the day. It will help clear your mind and relieve pressure. Something as simple as going to the water cooler for a drink may do the trick.
Take part in a noontime or an after-work exercise class. This will give you a chance to relax and a way to relieve stress.
To help your workday go smoothly, try arranging your activities: Do more demanding work in the morning, when your energy level is higher, and easier work later in the day, when you may be tired.
Try listening to music recordings, such as a pounding surf or songbirds,
to help you relax. Such tapes are sold in many shops. Use headphones if you are listening to them in the middle of the workday.
Get to work early or stay late once a week. You may be able to complete more when you change your daily work.
If your stress comes from job insecurity, take stock of yourself. Renew your knowledge, and remind yourself of your skills and strengths. Also, make sure you keep up with new developments in your fields. This will make you valuable to employers.
Don’t let rumors(谣言)go at work, which are usually false, cause you worry. A co-worker may just be thinking out loud about worst-case imagined events.
If your office is less structured (or if you are the boss), consider a company mascot(吉祥物)a cat or dog can do wonders for workers’ morale(士气).
