The curtain on the 2008 US presidential election finally rose last month as Requblican Senator(参议员) John McCain and Democratic Senator Barack Obama were formally selected as candidates of the two major parties. This may be one of the hardest decisions voters have to make between two appealing candidates. The big question for voters,as they face both an economic downturn and international threats,is :who will they elect? A young first - term senator promising change and new ideas,or a longtime senator with strong military experience and a reputation as a maverick(特立独行的人)?

American voters have never seen a candidate quite like Obama. He has a white mother from the US and a black fater from Kenya who left the family when Obama was very young. He spent part of his youth in Indonesia.

However,McCain has a very different life story.

He grew up in a Navy family and was a daring pilot during the Vietnam War in the 1960s. When Obama was in kindergarten in Indonesia,McCain's plane was shot down over Ietenam and he became a prisoner of war.McCain could have been set free if he disowned America but he refused and so was held for five years.

"We need a president who is very, very old,"McCain joked at his age as many others do.If elected,he would be 72 when he takes office and the oldest man to step in.

So in the end,the election may depend on several factors that are hard to judge:Will Obama's race matter to a significant number of voters ? Will workingclass whites who tended to support his primary (党内初选) oponent,Hillary Clinton, vote for Obama? And perhaps most important of all, will uncertain voters be more attracted to Obama's vision or to McCain's experience?

Whatever happens, one thing is clear, however:Whoever walks into the White House on January 20,2009,will find huge challenges waiting for him in the Oval Office, both at home and abroad.

64.______makes the result of the election hard to predict.

A.Whether working class whites care about Obama's inexperience

B.The economic trouble the country now faces

C.Who uncertain voters will finally decide to vote for

D.McCain being too old to govern the country

   A.his multi - cultural background

   B.his belife in tradition

It has always been said that women are not good drivers, because they simply don't have very good driving ability. On the other hand, most car accidents happen to men; very few happen to women.

From this, we can see that women are much more careful while driving. Another very interesting fact that we should point out is that in the past, women preferred to let their husbands be the only driver in the family rather than have a driving license. Somehow they were prevented from making this step in their lives, but nowadays there are many women that want to pass their driving tests from an early age.

However, we have to admit that men are more skillful drivers than women, but this does not mean that a woman cannot become a good driver by accumulating (积累) experience. So more and more teenagers and women around the age of thirty now want to pass their driving tests. While taking their driving lessons, they also have a number of special lessons with their parents or somebody in the family that has a driving license, this is just to improve their driving abilities and help them to pass the tests more easily.

To conclude, we can say that women are not such bad drivers. They just need more experience than men in order to be able to drive well. And on the other hand, there are a number of women that show better driving skills than the men around them.

67. Compared with the past, nowadays many women___.

70.  The passage mainly talks about___.

Botany (植物学) , the study of plants, occupies a particular position in the history of human knowledge. For many thousands of years it was the one field of awareness about which humans had anything more than the vaguest (模糊的)) of insights. It is impossible to know today just what our Stone Age ancestors knew about plants, but from what we can observe of pre-industrial societies that still exist, a detailed learning of plants and their properties must be extremely ancient. This is logical.Plants are the basis of the food pyramid for all living things even for other plants. They have always been enormously important to the welfare of people not only for food but also for clothing, tools, medicines, shelter, and a great many other purposes.Tribes living today in the jungle of the Amazon recognize hundreds of plants and know many properties of each.To them, botany has no name and is probably not even recognized as a special branch of "knowledge" at all.

Unfortunately, the more industrialized we become, the farther away we move from direct contact with plants, and the less distinct our knowledge grows.Yet everyone comes unconsciously on an amazing amount of botanical knowledge, and few people will fail to recognize a rose or an apple. When nor Neolithic ancestors, living in the Middle East about 10,000 years ago, discovered that certain grasses could be harvested and their seeds planted for richer fields the next season—the first, great step in a new association of plants and humans was taken.Grains were discovered and from them flowed the wonder of agriculture: cultivated crops. From then on, humans would increasingly take their living from the controlled production of a few plants, rather than getting a little here and a little there from many varieties that grew wild, and the accumulated knowledge of tens of thousands of years of experience with plants in the wild would begin to fade away.

1.What does the writer mean when he says "This is logical" in the first paragraph?

A.Human knowledge of plants is well organized and very detailed.

B.It is not surprising that early humans had a detailed knowledge of plants.

C.There is no clear way to determine the extent of our ancestor's knowledge of plant.

2.According to the passage, general knowledge of botany begun to fade away because ____.

A.people no longer value plants as a useful resource

B.direct contact with a variety of plants has decreased

C.botany is not recognized as a special branch of science

D.research is unable to keep up with the increasing number of plants

3.We learn that the first great step toward the practice of agriculture is____.

A.the changing diets of early humans

B.the development of a system of names for plants

C.the invention of agricultural implements (工具) and machinery

D.the discovery of certain grasses that could be harvested and replanted

4.Human would depend on the controlled production of a few plants for living with

    A.the knowledge of plants

B.the discovery of certain grasses

    C.the development of machinery

D.the appearance of agriculture
