About 20 years ago, I was lucky to teach a disabled young woman named Audrey. Not only was she good at math and science, but she was also very 21 in art. She could draw and paint beautifully. When Audrey graduated from university, she got two 22 , one in fine arts and one in chemistry. Not too many people do well in two such 23 areas of study.

Just before her high school graduation, Audrey 24 me a wonderful gift. It was a watercolour painting of a mother and her baby. A tear 25 from the mother’s eye as she looked 26 at her child. Under the painting, Audrey had 27 these words: “The deep love from Mother, 28 me, touches another.” What a beautiful gift! I had the piece of art framed and 29 in my office.

Years passed with many 30 from one office to another and I 31 the painting. Last year, after about eight years of not knowing where it was, I 32 a phone call from a former colleague who said she had 33 of mine. It was the picture Audrey had painted for me 18 years earlier. When cleaning out a storage room, she had 34 my gift.

I was struck that the 35 gift came back. I knew Audrey very well. When she was four years old, Audrey had a serious 36 . What’s worse, her father left the house. It was her mother who brought her up with much trouble. She 37 it but was disabled.

To 38 , it is just a painting, but to me it shows how a mother’s love has helped 39 a talent and how its 40 pushes me ahead.

Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in his life, he might go home and write in his diary; now, a teenager with 21 problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog(博客). In many ways, a diary and a blog are very 22 . But what makes bolgging different from writing in a(n) 23 diary?

The biggest difference is that a blog is much more 24 than a diary. Usually, a teenager treats his diary like a book full of 25 that he does not want to 26 with others.

It’s interesting that someone who writes in a blog 27 a diary will probably write nearly the same information.

I have a little sister, and sometimes I go online to read her 28 . She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry test. 29 I was her age, I wrote about the same things, but 30 in my dairy. Then, after I had finished writing, I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was 31 that my sister might read it.

The biggest 32 with blogging is that anyone can read what you write. If I was angry with a friend during high school and wrote something 33 about him in my diary, he would never know. 34 , if my sister ever wrote something bad about a friend, that friend might 35 her blog and get angry.

There are also 36 to blogging, of course. If I was feeling sad one day and wrote in my diary, “ Nobody cares about me”, because no one would 37 about it. However, if my sister wrote the same sentence in her blog, her best friends would quickly 38 and tell her how much they 39 her. Blogs help people 40 in contact with their friends and know what the people around them are doing.

It’s only after three weeks into a new job that I made a serious mistake. My boss called it “extremely embarrassing” in a company-wide e-mail — which, 31 , he wrote because he felt he needed to explain that what I did was something 32 in the company should ever do.

I wish I 33 give a good excuse for what I did. At the very least, I wish I could explain it somehow — 34 it on youth, inexperience or ignorance. Unfortunately, I’m 35 , experienced and I know better.

36 I work with some very kind and compassionate(富于同情心的) people. For the past couple of days many of them have taken time to 37 by my desk and offer comfort, encouragement and support. Some have shared with me similar 38 they have made. Evidently I’m not the only “ 39 ” person here.

One of the exchanges I had this week was with Lois, the much-honored, much-respected professional who 40 the desk right next to mine. Lois was completely 41 about her work, and to be honest I was a little nervous about how she would 42 to such an extremely embarrassing incident.

As I expected , Lois didn’t pass over the 43 when she saw me the next day. She mentioned it directly, 44 with empathetic consideration. She listened to my 45 . Just as I was ready to express my regrets, she brought my self-pity partly to a(n) 46 .

“It happened”, she said, “There’s nothing you can do to 47 that. It happened. But it’s over now. It’s 48 . It’s in the past. You need to let it go, and move on.” And with that she returned her 49 to her work, as if to say, “We’re done here.”

I beat myself up for weeks. At such times I need to remember those 50 words: It’s over. It’s done. Let it go. And mostly, move on.
