Ben
When I left school five years ago, I said to myself, “That’s that! No more learning for me.Now I can enjoy myself in the evening.” But about a year ago the boss said, “We’re going to get a computer in the near future.” What does he mean? I simply don’t know.Anyway, I decided to go to evening classes.I’m quite an expert(专家) on computers now and you know, I actually enjoy studying.
Eve
I haven’t much interest in studying. To be honest, I don’t like reading very much, except for magazines and that sort of thing.Just reading, that is, to kill the time. But I do enjoy watching TV.Not that I watch everything. In fact, I choose my programmes very carefully.I’m particularly interested in current affairs(时事).In some ways I think I learn more in this way than I did at school.
Ted
I’m a very different sort of person-I simply love doing things. That’s why I enjoy sports so much.I mean, actually playing.I hardly ever watch it on TV, but I do read quite a bit about it.I’m even interested in the history of sports.I don’t have much time for anything else, except that I quite like dancing. Some people say I’m not very good at it, though.
Joan
I should say I have great interest in studying.I’d rather do this than anything else.Since I left school.I’ve taken courses in all sorts of things.I go to the city library once a week, but I much prefer evening classes because it’s more fun that way.My latest “craze(狂热)”-if you can call it that -is foreign languages.I’m learning two, not one!

In my life, I have received many gifts from my mother. The most important was my life. However, there’s another special gift I will never forget.
When I grew up, I left home and got a job in South America. One day , a call came from my brother, “Something is wrong with Mom. She’s forgetful (健忘). She thinks we’re hiding (藏) you from her…”
I got back home at once. It was clear that she would not be able to stay in the house alone.
For nearly 4 years I stayed with my mother and we had fun. We even planted some vegetables together in the garden. It was not easy for me. I had to stop working. When I had to leave , I had to ask someone to look after her or drive her to my brother’s.
When it became clear that she was near the end, family memebers were called to come to say their good byes. For 3 weeks my sister and I just sat with Mom, took long walks and spent some real time with each other. My sister and I were both with Mom when she was passing away (去世), holding her hands and telling her how much we loved her. At the end of life, my mother gave me the gift of time with my sister in a way we would never have given ourselves.

The biggest changes have taken place in the center of the city. There are sidewalks on both sides of the street. You can see a street center with so many tall buildings around. You can’t drive there any more because no vehicle is allowed to pass there. A European-style fountain(喷泉) has been built in the street center garden.
There used to be an old school near my house. I spent my five years studying there. There was a small payground in front of the school. But now what I can see are five tall buildings standing there. When I was a child I never said, "When I grow up, I want to be a CEO," but here I am. When I look back on my career, I realize the road to becoming a CEO isn't a straight, clear path. In fact, no two paths are the same. But whether you want to be a boss one day or not, there's a lot to learn from how leaders rise to the top of successful companies.
As this series of stories shows, the paths to becoming a CEO may be different, but the people in that position(位置) share the qualities of commitment(义务), work ethic(道德) and a strong desire for building something new. And every CEO take risks along the way—putting your life savings on the line to start a software company or leaving a big business to be one of the first employees at a startup.
I grew up in Minnesota, and learned how to be an entrepreneur(企业家)from my father, who has run a small business for almost 30 years. I went to Georgetown University and tried a lot of business activities in college with success. And I always had a dream job pattern(模式): to walk to work, work for myself and build something for consumers(顾客).
I'm only 29, so it's been a quick ride to CEO. Out of college, I worked for AOL as a product manager, then moved to Revolution Health and ran the consumer product team. In mid-2007 I left Revolution Health and started LivingSocial with several other workmates, where I became a CEO.
Career advice: Don't figure out where you want to work, or even what industry you'd like to work at. Figure out what makes you do so. What gives you a really big rush? Answer why you like things, not what you like doing. . . and then apply it to your work life. Also, just because you're graduating, don't stop learning. Read more books than you did in college. If you do, and they're not, you're really well-positioned to succeed in whatever you do.
