It seems that men are under more stress when stuck in a traffic jam than women. British researchers for the GPS company TomTom used saliva(唾液) to decide the stress levels. Levels for women were far lower than levels for men. Most of the people taking part in the research, men and women, reported that they didn’t feel any stress at all. Even with that report, their saliva told a different story. In fact, people are under stress while in traffic and not even realizing it. That does not mean good things for health. People can only do something about their health if they know something is wrong.

Men are more likely to have much less patience than women. That is why their stress levels are much higher than women when they are sitting still in traffic. Men want to get where they are going now.

72% of people taking part in the research drove every day. Of course, 86% believed that traffic affected their lives in a bad way. Being stuck in traffic after a stressful day at work could raise the level to an even higher level. The more likely they are to get further stressed.

Stress from being stuck in traffic is also related to a higher chance of getting into car accidents. It is wise to avoid driving when already feeling stressed. Calm down for a few minutes, take a deep breath and drive as safely as possible. Driving with too much stress could cost you or someone else their life. It is not worth the danger. Reduce the amount of stress that you are experiencing before getting into the car and find ways to relax more when stuck in traffic. One way to relax is to have soothing music to play during these times.

68. What people reported were different from the research findings because______.

   A. they didn’t know they were stressed

   B. they didn’t know how to describe their feelings

   C. they didn’t want to share their true feelings with others

   D. they didn’t want to admit something was wrong with themselves

69. Why are men under more stress than women when stuck in a traffic jam?

   A. Because they drive more than women.

   B. Because they are less patient than women.

   C. Because they face more stress than women at work.

   D. Because they are less clear about where to go than women.

70. What can we learn about the research?

   A. 14% of people taking part in it were not affected by traffic jams.

   B. Researchers used saliva to decide whether people told the truth.

   C. It was carried out by a GPS company.

   D. Only British people took part in it.

The government of Norway is planning to build an unusual storage center on an island in the Arctic Ocean. The place would be large enough to hold about two million seeds. The goal is to present all crops known to scientists. The British magazine New Scientist published details of the plan last month. The structure will be designed to protect the world’s food supply against nuclear war, climate change and other possible threats. It will be built in a mountain on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen. The mountain is less than one thousand kilometers from the North Pole, the northernmost position on earth.

An international group called the Global Crop Diversity Trust is working on the project. The director of the group, Cary Fowler, spoke to New Scientist. He said the project would let the world rebuild agriculture if, in his word, “the worst came to the worst”. Norway is expected to start work next year. The project is expected to cost three million dollars. Workers will drill deep in the side of a sandstone mountain. Temperatures in the area never rise above 0ºC. The seeds will be protected behind walls a meter thick and high-security door.

The magazine report says the collection will represent the products of ten thousand years of farming. Most of the seeds at first will come from collections at seed banks in Africa, Asia and Latin America. To last a long time, seeds need to be kept in very low temperatures. Workers will not be present all the time. But they plan to replace the air inside the storage space each winter. Winter temperatures on the island are about eighteen degrees below 0ºC. The cold weather would protect the seeds even if the air could not be replaced.

Mr. Fowler says the proposed structure will be the world’s most reliable gene bank. He says the plant seeds would only be used when all other seeds are gone for some reason. Norway first proposed the idea in the 1980s. But security concerns delayed the plan. At that time, the Soviet Union was meeting in Rome of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

C.Spitsbergen is chosen because it is free of the threat unclear war forever.

D.Temperature is a major consideration when choosing the storage place.

66.We can infer from the text that _______.

A.People will get newly-developed seeds from the center every year.

B.The storage center will greatly promote world agriculture

Expensive and new gloves allow chatterboxes(话匣子)to take the term “handsfree” to a new level—by talking into them as they make a call. The gloves are known as “Talk to the Hand” and cost £1,000 a pair. They fixed a speaker unit into the thumb and a microphone into the little finger that can be connected to any mobile handset using Bluetooth.

Artist Sean Miles designed the new gloves that double as a phone in part of his project that shows the possibilities of gadget(小配件)recycling. He uses outdated gloves and combines them with parts from mobile handsets recycled through O2, which commissioned(承担)the project. Mobile phone users will be able to keep their hands warm while they chat without taking their phones out of their pockets or handbags.

Mr Miles designed two pairs of the new gloves—one in pink and the other in brown and yellow. They will appear in an exhibition this July and visitors will be able to win the gloves. If demand is high, they will then be produced on a larger scale. O2 Recycle, which commissioned the project, estimates that there are already 70 million unused mobile handsets in the UK. The service pays up to £260 to those who recycle gadgets including phones, handheld consoles, MP3 players and digital cameras.

Designer Sean Miles hopes his work will get people thinking about recycling. The 41-year-old said, “I hope that my ‘Talk to the Hand’ project will get people to think again about the waste created by not recycling gadgets. If a few more people recycle their gadgets rather than send them to trash, I think this project will have fulfilled its aim.”

Bill Eyres, head of O2 Recycle, urges people to recycle their phone responsibly. He said, “There’s a urgent need for all of us to look at outdated handsets, and all the gadgets that we move on from or upgrade each year. Whether they are consoles or cameras, we should think of them as a resource that we need to recycle responsibly rather than throw them away.”

60. The underlined word “O2” in Paragraph 2 is probably the name of ______.

   A. an artist          B. a company          C. a mobile          D. an exhibition

61. Consumers can buy the “Talk to the Hand” gloves ______.

A. in the exhibition                        B. from Mr Miles

C. when they are mass produced              D. after they recycle the gadgets

62. The purpose of the project is to _______.

A. promote the technology of IT

B. enable people to talk to their hands

C. raise people’s awareness of recycling

D. attract visitors’ attention in the exhibition

63. What is the passage mainly about?

A. New mobiles that are fashionable.

B. Outdated handsets that are upgraded.

C. Outdated gadgets that can be used for recycling.

D. New gloves that can be used for making phone calls.
