It’s been said that life turns on small things. Sometimes it’s hard to see how small choices can change your life. But when put together over tiime, the little things can make the biggest difference.

The theme of Success for Teens is “little things matter”. The book helps teens identify small, positive choices they can make in their lives to help them reach their goals. Lots of teens don’t realize how the little choices in their lives can have lasting effects. Often they focus on the bigger events, such as a major exam, a big game or competition, or choosing a college. The little things, however, can go unnoticed unless your teen understands how important they can be.

The little things that lead to success are mostly easy to do. Help your teen identify a few areas in everyday life where he or she can make small, positive choices. It might be as simple as getting up on time, prioritizing their schoolwork, putting in an extra 10 minutes of practice or using some spare time to help someone else.

Nineteen-year-old Kyle Freas used to be on his school baseball team and would play every day after school. When the season was over, he had an empty three hours a day, so he started spending one third of such extra time daily looking for ways to help other kids. Over the past few years, his project has raised thousands of dollars to help abused, homeless and sick children. Kyle spent just a little time each day doing something that ended up benefiting a lot of kids. The improtant thing to understand is that Kyle made the small and positive decisions necessary for success.

Make sure your child understands that even though the results of the positive choices may not be seen right away, they are building on each other and taking him or her on a path that will lead to success.

Xinhua News---The Beijing government has set out to recruit thousands of university graduates to work as junior officials in rural areas to both improve rural administration and ease the city’s employment problems.

The government plans to recruit 3,000 university graduates this year, 1,000 more than last year, to work as assistants to village heads or party secretaries in suburban areas.

People interested in jobs in Beijing’s rural villages and towns can send applications to Beijing Municipal Bureau of Personnel or log on to www. bjbys.com from February 1 through March 15.

“We hope university graduates will seize this opportunity to use their knowledge in rural villages and to start their careers,” Sun Zhenyu, the Deputy Director of Beijing Personnel Bureau, told Xinhua News Agency.

Monday: Here I am, in the middle of nowhere. this camping trip idea is not getting off to a very good start. It is raining and the tent leaks. The hiking seemed to take forever, and I still can't understand how it could all have been up hill! How did I ever let my brother talk me into this? When we get home--if we ever get home-- he's going to have to do something great to get back on my good side. Maybe he should sponsor a shopping spree at the mall!

Tuesday:Things are looking up. The sun came out today, so we were able to leave the tents and dry out. We are camped at the edge of a small lake that I couldn't see before because of the rain and fog. The mountains are all around us, and the forest is absolutely beautiful. We spent most of the day dragging everything out of our backpacks or tents and putting it where the sun could dry it out. Later in the afternoon we tried to catch the fish for dinner, but the fish were smarter than we were. At night we built a fire and sang songs happily

Wednesday: We hiked to the far side of the lake and climbed to the top of a small peak. From there we could see how high the other mountains were and how far the forest spread around us. On the way up we passed through a snowfield!

Thursday: I caught my first fish! We followed the stream that fed the lake. After about two miles, we came to a section that Carol said looked "fishy". She had a pack rod, which can be carried in a backpack. I asked to cast it, and I caught a fish on my first try. Carol caught a few more. but they were just too pretty to eat for lunch, so we put them back in the stream.

Friday: I can't believe we are going home already. It will be nice to get a hot shower, sleep in a real bed, and eat junk food, but the trip has been wonderful. Little Hossein was the first person I knew who died. We started calling him Little Hossein when Big Hossein moved down from the mountains to live with his brother Mohammed, our cook. Little Hossein was older than me, but just my size. His head was shaved. His father, Mashala, our gardener, spent the whole day, every day, watering the rose bushes, because the minute he stopped they got dusty. Little Hossein’s skin was the color of the dust and smelled like kerosene(煤油). One day, Big Hossein found him stealing Kool Pops from our refrigerator and hit him on the head with his flip-flops. Over and over. Harder and harder. Little Hossein started to cry, and so did I.

After that I guess we were friends, except that I spied on him and he spied on me. He crept onto the terrace and looked through my bedroom window. I told him the picture of President Kennedy on my dresser was the Shah of Emrika. He stared through my window at that picture a lot. Or maybe he was looking at my piggy bank right next to it.

He’d stand outside my window where my bike was parked. It was a three-speed from the States, but finally I let him borrow it. He rode it outside the gate to the village. He didn’t let the village boys ride it, but he rode it round and round the square while the boys tried to push him off.
