I had always planned to take a tour of Yosemite, and I finally fulfilled my dream last December. I cannot help but express how much I enjoyed my tour of Yosemite.

As the best-known scenic spot, Yosemite National Park is actually a natural wonder. The park is located in the middle of the Nevada mountain range and it is well-known for its huge rocks, great waterfalls and fantastic valleys.

I really need to thank my tour guide, Tony. He was very helpful and he told me a lot of interesting facts about the scenic spots we saw. As I couldn’t drive, the tour guide was also my driver. He picked me up at 8 o’clock in the morning. He was a professional and experienced tour guide, so he tried everything to make sure that I had an interesting and relaxing tour. As he was driving, he kept on telling me about the wildlife and the unique scenery in this surprising land.

Bridalveil Fall was our first stop. The best time to see it is in summer, but I didn’t go there in the hot season, so the waterfall was not as good as it could have been. I still took a photo of myself standing in front of this terrific waterfall before leaving for my next stop. When I first saw El Capitan, the largest standing sandstone structure in the world, I knew why it was called “El Capitan”. The huge structure dwarfed(使矮小) everything around it. Though I was used to seeing skyscrapers, nothing had prepared me for this.

I felt so happy and excited after I came back from Yosemite. I haven’t had this feeling for a very long time. Happiness usually comes when we do activities that accomplish something, which is a deep feeling of joy that often lasts a long time. So I decided to go out for a trip constantly to make myself happy and relaxed.

Sharks have lived in the oceans for over 450 million years, long before dinosaurs appears .There are now about 360 species of sharks, whose size ,behavior ,and other characteristics differ widely .

Sharks range in size from the 6-inch-long dwarf-dog shark to 60-foot-long whale shark—the world’s biggest fish. The whale sharks, like two other large shark species—the basking shark and the mega mouth shark---are harmless to people because they feed on plants and small aquatic(水生的)animal.

Every year ,we catch and kill over 100 million sharks, mostly for food and for their fins. Dried shark fins are used to make shark fin soup, which sells for as much as $50 a bowl in fine Hong Kong restaurants. Others sharks are killed for sport and out of fear. Sharks are volunterable (脆弱)to overfishing because it takes most species 10 to 15 years to begin reproducing and they produce only a few offspring.

While sharks are seen as people –eating monsters, they save human lives. In addition to providing people with food, they are helping us in cancer. They are among the few animals in the world that almost never get cancer. A research shows that chemicals extracted (提取)from shark cartiage(肋骨)have killed cancerous tumors in laboratory animals .Their highly effective immune system also allows wounds to heal quickly without becoming infected.

Sharks are needed in the world’s ocean ecosystems. Although they don’t need us ,we need them .We are much dangerous to sharks than they are to us .For every shark that bites a person, we kill one million sharks.

Yu Pengnian is an 88-year-old real estate Chinese businessman. He amassed(积聚) a fortune of $1.3 billion dollars during his career but instead of keeping the money and living like an emperor, he decided to give it all away. All of his fortune will be spent on helping poor Chinese students get a better education.

And Yu isn’t the only super-rich person in China who has this spirit of giving. Chen Guangbiao, a Jiangsu recycling tycoon, has given millions of dollars to charity (慈善)and promises to give all of his money to charity when he dies.

Yu and Chen are among the many businessmen who have become prosperous during China’s economic rise. An American business magazine, Forbes, estimates that there are 117 billionaires in China and hundreds of thousands of millionaires. What sets Yu and Chen apart from the rest, though, is their tremendous generosity(慷慨,大方) when it comes to donating money to charity.

Last week Bill Gates and Warren Buffett came to Beijing. Gates and Buffett, two of the world’s richest men, are also the world’s biggest philanthropists. They invited fifty of China’s richest people to have dinner with them and talk about the spirit of giving. At first, only a few people accepted their invitation. It seemed some of the invited guests were afraid that Buffett and Gates were going to pressure them into giving their wealth to charity.

A lot of people are angry at the billionaires who are not willing to give away their fortunes. They criticize them for being miserly and not caring about the poor and the less fortunate. But I think this criticism is wrong. A gift, any gift, should come from the heart. Instead of criticism, these reluctant billionaires should be encouraged to follow the examples of Yu Pengnian and Chen Guangbiao. Encouragement is always a better strategy than criticism. As we say in English, “You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

Goals can help you do, be and experience everything you want in life. Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.

Successful and happy people have an idea of how their life should be and they set lots of goals to help them succeed. By setting goals you are taking control of your life. It’s like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of it this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination in mind which is laid out for her on a map. She can drive straight there without any wasted time or wrong turns. The other driver has no goal or destination or map. She starts off at the same time from the same place as the first driver, but she drives without an aim around, never getting anywhere, just using up gas and oil. Which driver do you want to be?

Winners in life set goals and follow through on them. Winners decide what they want in life and then get there by making plans and setting goals. Unsuccessful people just let life happen by accident. Goals aren’t difficult to set, and they aren’t difficult to reach. It’s up to you to find out what your goals and ideals(理想)really are.

Research tells us that when we write a goal down, we are more likely to achieve. Written goals can be reviewed regularly, and have more power.
