20.Forgiveness
Forgiveness is a quality that is difficult to possess.When someone has deeply hurt you,it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate.However,forgiveness is possible,and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health.People who forgive show less sadness,anger and stress and more hopefulness,according to a recent research.
(56)A Try the following steps:
Calm yourself.(57)G You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature,or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology.Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize.They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way.
(58)F Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者).Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain.Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings,learn to look for the love,beauty and kindness around you.
(59)C If you understand your offender,you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness,fear,and even love.You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself.(60)E But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.

A.How should you start to forgive?
B.Why should you forgive?
C.Try to see things from your offender's angle.
D.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
E.For some people,forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F.If you wait for people to apologize,you could be waiting an awfully long time.
G.To make your anger die away,try a simple stressmanagement technique.
19.Kids don't have to pay bills,cook dinners,or manage car polls (合伙使用汽车).But-just like adults-they have their share of daily demands and things that don't go smoothly.If frustrations and disappointments pile up,kids can get worried.
It's natural for all kids to worry at times,and because of personality differences,some may worry more than others.Luckily,parents can help kids manage worry and deal with everyday problems with ease.Kids who can do that develop a sense of confidence and optimism that will help them master life's challenges,big and small.
What kids worry about is often related to the age and stage they're at.Kids and preteens typically worry about things like grades,tests,their changing bodies,fitting in with friends,a goal they missed at the soccer game,or whether they'll  make the team.They may worry about social troubles like cliques (派系,小圈子),peer (同龄人) pressure,or whether they'll be bullied (欺负),laughed at,or left out.Because they're beginning to feel more a part of the larger world around them,preteens also may worry about world events or issues they hear about on the news or at school.Things like terrorism,war,pollution,global warming,endangered animals,and natural disasters can all become a source of worry.

52.From the passage,we learn thatB.
A.not kids but adults may get worried about something
B.the worries that kids experience vary from one to another
C.kids worry about the same issues, regardless of their age

D.subjects that teenagers and adults worry about
55.The passage is most likely intended forC.
A.scientists
B.teachers
C.parents
D.doctors.
17.Scientists have overcome a major difficulty for humans to receive life-saving organ transplants from pigs,thanks to a powerful new gene-editing technique.
In a paper in the US journal Science,the researchers described using gene-editing method to remove potentially harmful DNA sequences at 62locations,which are the remnants(留存之处) of a virus called PERV,from the pig genome.
Globally human organs for transplant being short in supply, researchers and doctors have long hoped that the problem could be solved through the availability of suitable animal organs for transplant,a concept known as xenotransplantation.
Pigs have been especially promising candidates due to their similar size and biological structure to humans.
But one of the largest safety concerns has been the fact that pigs,similar to most mammals,contain PERVs in all their living cells-that are harmless to their native hosts but can cause disease in other species.
"PERVs and the lack of ability to remove them from pig DNA was a real barrier on the promising stage set for xenotransplantation."
In the new study,scientists made 62genetic edits to inactivate viruses in pig cells,which they called"an explosive leap forward".
When these cells were then introduced to human cells in the lab,PERV infectivity was reduced by up to one thousand fold, they said.
"Our work got away the shadow PERVs put above the field more than a decade ago when the virus was discovered,while renewing our faith in xenotransplantation,"lead author Luhan Yang,a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard University,said.
The team hopes eventually they can completely root out the risk that PERVs could cause disease in xenotransplantation by using modified pig cells to clone a line of pigs that would have their PERV genes inactivated."We still have a long way to go,though."Luhan added.

33.From the passage,we may know thatD.
A.PERV is found during Luhan Yang's experiments
B.PERV infecting rate has been reduced to 1‰now
C.the breakthrough is the result of a decade-long project
D.PERV is not a threat to same species in organ transplantation
34.Which of the following is TRUE?C

D.New hope in xenotransplantation.
16.While it is most sports fans'favorite part of watching their team compete,shouting out  insulting words or encouragement doesn't actually help them win matches,new research suggests.
An experiment conducted earlier this month, provided an answer accidentally to the question whether cheering does actually have an effect on either team's performance.
Originally,the study project started by Brenna Boyd,a research assistant working under a professor in the School of Architectural Engineering,aimed to settle a long-standing argument in American college football over which team has the loudest stadium.She also hoped her study would determine whether crowd noise is harmful to the communications on the field.But since she's more into hockey than football,she did her later experiment in college hockey stadiums.
Boyd and her classmates measured noise levels during college hockey games,including four played by their home team--University of Nebraska team at Omaha's Century Link Centre from November 2014through to March this year.
For the loudest game,the average loudness equivalent level in the student section was 95.5decibels(分贝)-the equivalent of hearing a jackhammer from 50feet away-with a peak of 132decibels,the equivalent of a jet engine about 100feet away.
Ms Boyd's team found that noise levels in the student section were generally louder than the others.However,when the noise levels were analyzed carefully together with events in the game,they found that there wasn't a strong connection between decibel level and goals scored by the home team."There wasn't enough data to see whether loudness was connected with how many goals they achieved during the game.And this conclusion actually attracted a lot more attention than I had expected."Said Ms Boyd.
In surveys given to the players after each match,Ms Boyd found that the majority reported that the crowd was loud but not that distracting-"about 70per cent between silent and loud"-and that the noise levels didn't prevent them from communicating with their teammates or coach while in play.

25.When Brenna Boyd was planning her project,she wanted to find outB.
A.the average loudness of noise during college hockey games
B.which college team stadium has the loudest audience
C.whether cheering affects the outcome of hockey games

26.According to this passage,Brenna BoydC.
A.is a professor at the University of Nebraska
B.enjoyed herself watching college football games
C.is surprised by the great attention her research attracted
D.attended four hockey games to measure noise levels
27.Brenna Boyd's experiment found out thatB.
A.crowd noise is harmful to the player on the field
B.college students are passionate cheering home teams
C.college hockey games are noisier than football games
D.loudness level of a jet engine is higher than a jackhammer
28.The underlined word  insulting in paragraph 1can be replaced byA.
A.offending     B.inspiring
C.amusing       D.disappointing.
14.People are being lured (引诱)onto Facebook with the promise of a fun,free service without realizing they're paying for it by giving up large amounts of personal information.Facebook then attempts to make money by selling their data to advertisers that want to send targeted messages.
Most Facebook users don't realize this is happening.Even if they know what the company is up to,they still have no idea what they're paying for Facebook because people don't really know what their personal data is worth.
The biggest problem,however,is that the company keeps changing the rules.Early on,you keep everything private.That was the great thing about facebook-you could create your own little private network.Last year,the company changed its privacy rules so that many things-your city,your photo,your friends'names-were set,by default (默认)to be shared with everyone on the Internet.
According to Facebook's vice-president Elliot Schrage,the company is simply making changes to improve its service,and if people don't share information,they have a"less satisfying experience".
Some critics think this is more about Facebook looking to make more money.Its original business model,which involved selling ads and putting them at the side of the page,totally failed.Who wants to look at ads when they're online connecting with their friends?
The privacy issue has already landed Facebook in hot water in Washington.In April.Senator Charles Schumer called on Facebook to change its privacy policy.He also urged the Federal Trade Commission to set guidelines for social-networking sites."I think the senator rightly communicated that we had not been clear about what the new products were and how people could choose to use them or not to use them,"Schrage admits.
I suspect that whatever Facebook has done so far to invade our privacy,it's only the beginning,which is why I'm considering deactivating(撤销)my account.Facebook is a handy site,but I'm upset by the idea that my information is in the hands of people I don't know.That's too high a price to pay.

66.What do we learn about Facebook from the first paragraph?C

13.Never Put off Tomorrow What You Can Do Today
Want to put off studying for the physics test?Or writing that thirty-five-page research paper on future uses of biotechnology?Sure you do?And who wouldn't?But it's still a silly idea to put off doing something until a future time. Here is why…
36.BThe task will be still the same.It won't be any more fun and you still won't want to do it.As the deadline gets closer and closer, the task seems to become larger and larger if you haven't started the work. And the stress increases. Now not only do you have to write that paper, you have to do it under great pressure.
37.FBefore you start,it seems that the task is unlikely to be accomplished. But you know what? You're probably miscalculating.Get started-maybe on a small piece-and you will discover that you have more resources and know more about the subject than you thought.Result? You won't experience nearly as much suffering as you expected to.Things are guaranteed-100 percent-to get better.
38.EIf you leave your work before the night before it's due,you give up the possibility of getting input from your professor.Professors regularly give advice-or at least a few useful tips-during office hours.Unfortunately, though, they don't usually hold office hours at midnight,so you will be out of luck when you discover the night before the midterm that you have no idea how to do the questions that will count for two-thirds of your grade.
39.CEver wonder why the professor assigns the papers two weeks before it's due? It's because he or she expects you to be thinking about the issue,or doing the research, for two weeks. No,not every waking moment, but at least some of the time. After all,the professor could just as easily have given the assignment one week before it was due if he or she expected less thinking. When you throw together a paper or a report at the last minute, your ideas are half-baked.And your professor will know it.
40.AIf you put things off at the last minute, you might find that you haven't budgeted enough minutes to finish the necessary tasks. It's the easiest thing in the world to miscalculate how long it'll take to do all the work especially when new issues arise-like illness, family problems, computer breakdowns, trouble at work, and all the other things-as you're thinking through your paper argument or preparing yourself for the coming test.If you keep delaying, you don't allow yourself time for those various life events that have an adverse (不利的) effect on your ability to complete your assignment.

A.Time can run out.
B.Tomorrow won't be better.
C.Ideas need time to develop.
D.Your professor will be impatient.
E.You blow off your chances for help.
F.You are probably overestimating (高估) the pain.
G.The problem won't be solved.
12.Last night's meteor(流星) shower left many people in the community dissatisfied and demanding answers.According to Gabe Rothsclild,Emerald Valley's mayor, people gathered in the suburbs of the city, carrying heavy telescopes, expecting to watch the brightly burning meteors passing through the sky. What they found instead was a sky so brightened by the city's lights that it darkened the light of the meteors passing overhead.
"My family was so frustrated,"admitted town resident Duane Co sby,"We wanted to make this an unforgettable family outing, but it turned out to be a huge disappointments."
Astronomers---scientists who study stars and planets----have been complaining about this problem for decades. They say that light pollution prevents them from seeing objects in the sky that they could see quite easily in the past. They call on people and the government to take measures to fight against it.
There is yet a population besides professional and amateur star observers that suffers even more from light pollution. This population consists of birds, bats frogs, snakes, etc. For example, outdoor lighting severely affects migrating(迁徙的)birds.According to the International Dark-Sky Association."100 million birds a year throughout North America die in crashes with lighted buildings and towers."
Countless more animals casualties(伤亡)result from the use of artificial lighting.Clearly, people enjoy the benefits of lighting their evenings, but some scientists think it can be harmful for humans, too. They worry that exposure to light while sleeping can increase person's chances of getting cancer.
Emerald Valley is only one community that is becoming aware of the negative effects of light pollution. For years,Flagstaff,Arizona, has enforced lighting regulations in its city in order to assist astronomers at the Lowell Observatory.Similar efforts have been made worldwide, and a movement is underway to remind us to turn off lights when we are not using them,so that other creatures can share the night.

11.The practice of students endlessly copying letters and sentences from a blackboard is a thing of the past. With the coming of new technologies like computers and smartphone, writing by hand has become something of nostalgic (怀旧的)skill. However, while today's educators are using more and more technology in their teaching, many believe basic handwriting skills are still necessary for students to be successful---both in school and in life.
Virginia Berninger, professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, says it's important to continue teaching handwriting and help children acquire the skill of writing by hand.
Berninger and her colleagues conducted a study that looked at the ability of students to complete various writing tasks---both on a computer and by hand. The study, published in 2009,found that when writing with a pen and paper, participants wrote longer essays and more complete sentences and had a faster word production rate.
In a more recent study,Berninger looked at what role spelling plays in a student's writing skills and found that how well children spell is tied to know well they can write."Spelling makes some of the thinking parts of the brain active which helps us access our vocabulary, word meaning and concepts. It is allowing our written language to connect with ideas."Berninger said.
Spelling helps students translate ideas into words in their mind first and then to transcribe(转换)"those words in the mind written symbols on paper or keyboard and screen,"the study said.Seeing the words in the"mind's eye"helps children not only to turn their ideas into words, says Berninger, but also to spot(发现) spelling mistakes when they write the words down and to correct then over time.
"In our computer age, some people believe that we don't have to teach spelling because we have spell checks,"she said."But until a child has a functional spelling ability of about a fifth grade level, they won't have the knowledge to choose the correct spelling among the options given by the computer."

D.discussed the importance of writing speed.
30.What does"mind's eye"in paragraph 5 mean?D
A.Window.B.Soul   C.Picture.D.Imagination.
31.What conclusion could be drawn from the passage?C
A.Computers can help people with their choice of words.
B.Spell checks can take the place of spelling teaching.
C.Handwriting still has a place in today's classrooms.
D.Functional spelling ability develops fast in the fifth grade.
