Hello. I'm Jan from Mrs. Lake's class. My class wants to work together to help the public. We think we have found a great way to do this. Last month we did a class project on the highways near our town. We learned about the Adopt-a-Highway Program. This program brings people together to pick up litter along the roads. We think it would be a great idea for all students in our school to join the program and adopt(收养) a highway.
Adopting a highway is not like adopting a pet. When a highway is adopted, only part of the highway is cared for by a group of people. The group agrees to work every week to keep its part of the highway clean. Each group gets its own sign that has the name of the group printed on it. The sign is put up at the side of the road . This sign lets drivers know who is keeping that area of the road clean.
The Adopt-a-Highway Program is a great way for people to help their environment look nicer. Also, the government does not have to send out as many road workers. This saves money. Finally, people may try harder to keep roads clean if they see people, especially teenagers like us, cleaning them up.
We will need helpers to care for our adopted highway. If you want to feel great and keep our roads clean, please come with your parents to the meeting next week. We will meet in Mrs. Lake's room on Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. At the meeting, we will talk about which roads are the dirtiest as a result of people's unkind acts. Then we'll try to pick an area to adopt and clean.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Remember to keep our roads clean!

It has been a dream for 30 years but now the world's first flying car is set to hit the roads this year.
Ever since the “Back to the Future” movies lit up our screens in the 1980s,designers have dreamt of cars that could take to the sky at the push of a button. And now pilots can order their own “roadable” plane for just 127,000.

Fueling the 19ft. long plane couldn't be simpler----you just drive it into a petrol station and fill it up.
A spokeswoman said, “You can keep you ‘light-sport airplane' in your garage. But because it needs a short runway to take to the air, you will have to drive to your local airport, fly up to 460 miles, land, and drive directly to your destination. You will always be ready to drive or fly."
The spokeswoman added,“Never let bad weather change your trip. You call simply divert(改道)and continue on the ground until the weather clears.”

One day a rich man took his son on a trip to the country in order to show his son if the poor lived, so he could be thankful to his wealth. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of that would be considered a very poor family. On their return back, the father asked his son to explain what he had learnt. The boy, who had remained silent and deep in thought on the journey home, replying in a way that shocked his father.

The boy said he wanted to become farmer. He envied the farmers who had the beautiful night star to give them light while her family had only expensive lanterns. His wish was to have a farm where he could go swimming in an endless river instead of the garden pool in their home. Finally the boy finished by saying, “Before the trip I thought we were rich but today I have learnt who is true rich.”

With this, the boy got up and walked away, leaving his father sat on their comfortable sofa, totally speechless.

Most of us lead unhealthy lives;we spend far too much sitting down. If, in addition, we are careless about our diets, our bodies soon become loose and fatty and our systems slowmoving. There are some aspects(方面)of our unhealthy lives that we cannot avoid. I am thinking of such features of modern city life as pollution, noise, rushed meals and stress. But keeping fit is a way to reduce the effects of these evils. The usual suggestion to a person who is looking for a way to keep fit is to take up some sport or other. While it is true that every weekend you will find people playing football and hockey in the local park, they are outnumbered a hundred to one by the people who are simply watching them.
For those who do not particularly enjoy competitive sports—and it is especially difficult to do so if you are not good at them—there are such separate activities as cycling, walking, jogging and swimming. What often happens though is that you do them in such a leisurely way, so slowly, that it is doubtful if you are doing yourself much good, except for the fact that you have at least managed to get up out of your armchair.
Even after you have found a way for keeping in shape, through sports or gymnastics, you are still only halfway to good health, because, according to the experts, you must also master the art of complete mental and physical relaxation(放松). It has to do with deep breathing, emptying your mind of all thoughts, meditation, and so on. Yoga, as practised in the West, is the most widely known and popular of the systems for achieving the necessary state of relaxation. It seems ironical(讽刺性的), though, that as our lives have improved in a material sense we have found it increasingly necessary to go back to forms of activity—physical effort on the one hand and relaxation on the other—which were the natural way of life of our forefathers.
(1)Pollution, noise and stress are examples of _________.
A.causes of unfitness
B.bad features of living in the city
C.the things we can completely do away with
D.unavoidable things in the city
(2)We don't get much out of separate sports because we __________.
A.don't do them very often
B.don't do them actively enough
C.find it hard to get out of our armchairs
D.don't find them interesting
(3)To be healthy, we must__________ .
A.keep fit and active
B.keep fit and learn to relax
C.be active and practise Yoga
D.have a sound mind
(4)Our forefathers were healthy because__________ .
A.their way of life closely connected with both exercise and relaxation
B.they were careful to get plenty of fresh air
C.they spent most of the time out of doors
D.their environment was not polluted
