Dear friends,

I have some advices about computers to share with you.

Now the computer had become a good friend of students. It has made our life more colorful. We can get information fast under its help. Through the Internet we can talk with people thousands of miles away.

However, there have some disadvantages. It gives us some trouble. I¡¯m afraid that we spend a bit too much time play games in front of the screen. Our studies and health are getting worse. Our parents are beginning to worry us. In the addition, we surely have less time leaving to get together with others. In this case, the computer is taking away our human nature.

I suggest that we would use the computer to improve our life and work on the one hand, and enjoy the sunshine or fresh air with our fiends on the other hand.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Although I started learning English during my college years, when I entered the States, I only understood two English words ¡°Yes¡± and ¡°No¡±. We learned many grammar rules but we could not make the language connections to the real English world. Language frustration worries almost all first generation immigrants. For example, I got a letter from a Chinese-American who has lived in the States for a long time and has a good IT job saying ¡°My 11-year-old girl writes quite well, but as her parents, we could not even read her article.¡±In addition, my Chinese-American professor friend has difficulty reading a novel. Improving our English skills has become a long journey for all of us. Honestly, if I have a chance, I really want to reach out to everyone in the world who has had a similar experience: learning a second language in adulthood. I wish I could encourage them to speak out about the culture shock, frustration they felt about the differences between West and East.

I have mainly focused on my English writing since 2008 after I found ¡°Literacy Volunteers¡±, an organization that specially focuses on helping immigrants improve their English. I decided to challenge myself, writing a story like an American. I saw many wonderful Americans there. As soon as I met my teacher Alice, I asked her to be my private language tutor and have taken Tims English class. Every week Alice and I have worked on my English essays sentence by sentence.

To observe the culture differences between West and East, occasionally, I posted a few of my English essays online. I mentioned previously about American culture; when people read the same article or even face the same situation, American and Chinese act very differently. In my viewpoint, these differences make America the strongest country in the world. I know you have the right to express your own opinions, but accusing others without proof is not acceptable.

A. Americans and Chinese are of the same idea about something

B. culture shock only exists between Chinese and Americans

A. to show how hard a Chinese-American lives in America

B. to share her experience of improving her English

C. to imply grammar rules are not important

D. to warn Chinese-Americans of English

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿A. Develop a good attitude about tests

When you arrange your week, you make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time, such as your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don¡¯t forget to set aside enough time for ertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.

___¡¾2¡¿______________________

The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won¡¯t end if you don¡¯t pass a test, so don¡¯t overly worry.

When you get home from school, go over your notes. Review the important points that your teacher mentioned in class. If you know what the teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. This will help you understand the next class. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.

Travel tips that are no longer true

We all love an inside trip, but some of the classic tips for travelers no longer hold true. ¡¾1¡¿

1. Book a plane ticket far in advance to save money.

This myth may have been true back in the 1960s, when flights were less common than they are today. Back then, the demand for a flight would naturally increase as the date approached, there being few other options. ¡¾2¡¿ According to recent studies, the best time to buy a domestic ticket was between six and seven weeks before.

¡¾3¡¿

Don¡¯t ignore the benefits of going straight to the hotel to negotiate (ÉÌ̸) a good deal on a room. Many hotel chains offer rate guarantees and encourage customers to book directly. Hotels also frequently have discounts or some offers that third-party websites don¡¯t know. Apart from this, hotels give the upgrades, not the booking agents.

3. Avoid street food.

¡¾4¡¿ If this means standing up at a cheap street stall (̯λ), then follow the crowd. Don¡¯t sit down at a restaurant and spend four times more, on the simple assumption that it¡¯s the only safe option. Can you see what¡¯s going on in the kitchen?

4. Carry your money in a special pocket or pouch.

This is the fastest way to stand out from locals ¡ª who will have their money in a wallet or purse. Only take what you need when you leave your hotel room. ¡¾5¡¿

A. When in Rome, do what the Romans do.

B. And make sure to put your wallet in a front pocket.

C. This is only true if you are buying products that are heavily taxed.

D. Let yourself relax in a warm room for one or two people in single beds.

E. Check the updates on these tall tales (˵´ó»°) to save cash and add experience to your trip.

F. These days, many alternatives for the most popular routes mean that demand stays steady.

G. The best hotel prices are on travel websites.
