题目内容

14.If Confucius(孔子)were still alive today and could celebrate his September 28birthday with a big cake,there would be a lot of candles(蜡烛).He'd need a fan or a strong wind to help him put them out.
While many people in China will remember Confucius on his special day,few people in the United States will give him a passing thought.It's nothing personal.Most Americans don't even remember the birthdays of their own national heroes.
But this doesn't mean that Americans don't care about Confucius.In many ways he has become a bridge that foreigners must cross if they want to reach a deeper understanding of China.
In the past twenty years,the Chinese studies programs have gained huge popularity in Western universities.More recently,the Chinese government has set up Confucius Institutes(孔子学院) in more than 80countries.These schools teach both Chinese language and culture.The main courses of Chinese culture usually included Chinese art,history and philosophy(哲学).Students in the United States,at the same time,are racing(比赛)to learn Chinese.So they will be ready for life in a world where China is an equal power with the United States.Businessmen who hope to make money in China are reading books about Confucius to understand their Chinese customers.
So the old thinker's ideas are still alive and well.
Today China attracts the West more than ever, and it will need more teachers to introduce Confucius and Chinese culture to the West.
As for the old thinker,he will not soon be forgotten by people in the west, even if his birthday is.

72.The opening paragraph is mainly intended toB.

根据文章第一段"If Confucius(孔子)were still alive today and could celebrate his September 28 birthday with a big cake, there would be a lot of candles. He'd need a fan or a b wind to help him put them out."
Today China attracts the West more than ever, and it will need more teachers to introduce Confucius and Chinese culture to the West."

4.Climbers at the top of Mount Everest,the world's highest peak,will now be able to make video calls and surf the Internet on their mobile phones,a Nepalese (尼泊尔的) telecom group claims.
Ncell,a branch company of Swedish phone giant TeliaSonera,said on Thursday it had set up a high-speed third-generation (3G) phone base station at an altitude of 5,200metres in the Everest region.
"Today we made the world's highest video call from Mount Everest base camp successfully.The coverage (覆盖范围) of the network will reach up to the peak of Mount Everest,"Ncell Nepal chief Pasi Koistinen told reporters in Kathmandu.
The installation (安装) will also help tens of thousands of tourists and hikers who visit the world's highest mountain every year.
Climbers who reached its 8,848-metre peak previously depended on expensive satellite phones and a voice-only network set up by China Mobile in 2007on the Chinese side of the mountain.
"This is a great milestone for mobile communications as the 3G high speed Internet will bring faster,more affordable telecommunication services from the world's tallest mountain,"said Lars Nyberg,chief executive of TeliaSonera,which owns 80percent of Ncell.
The 3G services will be fast enough to make video calls and use the Internet,said the company,which also claimed the world's lowest 3G base at 1,400metres below sea level in a mine in Europe.
Despite the installation in Mount Everest,telecom services cover less than one-third of the 28million people of Nepal,one of the poorest countries in the world.
TeliaSonera said it planned to invest $ 100million in the next year to ensure that mobile coverage increases to more than 90per cent of the Himalayan nation's population.
The 3G network on Mount Everest puts TeliaSonera ahead of state-controlled Nepal Telecom,Indian-owned United Telecom and China Mobile.
Around 3,000people have climbed to the Everest summit since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to conquer the peak in 1953.

5.In America,square dancing has been the most popular form of folk dancing since the early days.In early times,when men and women worked in groups to build a barn (谷仓) or harvest crops,they danced when the work was done.The music came from the violin for the most part,but if there was no one to play a musical instrument,clapping was used to produce the rhythm by which to dance.The early settlers danced in a store,in a barn,or in a farm kitchen.
A square is formed by four couples (对)who stand facing the centre of the square.Each couple stand on one side of the square,the boy on the left and the girl on the right.
The caller is an important part of the dance,since he tells the dancers which steps to do.If the dancers do not know the steps,he teaches them.It takes time to learn to be a good caller,and good callers are always in demand(被需要).
These are the names of some of the steps the dancers do:Form a square; Circle; Honour your partner; Swing your partner; Form a star.There are many more.As the callers tell the dancers what to do next,they move to form the pattern(图形)he calls.
Large or small numbers of people can dance at one time.Sometimes 800or 1,000people may be dancing at the same time.Or there may be only one square of eight people.
Special clothes are worn by some when dancing.This makes the dance more colourful to watch.The special clothes are different from place to place.Women often wear full skirts of various colours with a pretty blouse.Men have coloured shirts and western trousers that they wear only when square dancing.In some country areas,everyone wears his best clothes.

2.Some children are natural-born bosses. They have a strong need to make decisions, manage their environment, and lead rather than follow.Stephen Jackson,a Year One student,"operates under the theory of what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine,"says his mother."The other day I bought two new Star Wars light sabers(剑).Later,I saw Stephen with the two new ones while his brother was using the beat-up ones."
"Examine the extended family, and you'll probably find a bossy grandparent, aunt, uncle or cousin in every generation. It's an inheritable trait,"says Russell Barkley,a professor at the Medical University of South Carolina.Other children who may not be particularly bossy can gradually gain dominance(支配地位) when they sense their parents are weak, hesitant,or in disagreement with each other.
Whether it's inborn nature or developed character at work, too much control in the hands of the young isn't healthy for children or the family.Fear is at the root of a lot of bossy behavior, says family psychologist John Taylor.Children,he says in his book From Defiance to Cooperation,"have secret feelings of weakness"and"a desire to feel safe."It's the parents'role to provide that protection.
When a"boss child"doesn't learn limits at home, the stage is set for a host of troubles outside the family. The overly willful and unbending child may have trouble obeying teachers or coaches, for example,or trouble keeping friends. It can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your bossy ways.
"I see more and more parents giving up their power,"says Barkley, who has studied bossy behavior for more than 30 years."They bend too far because they don't want to be as strict as their own parents were. But they also feel less confident about their parenting skills.Their kids,in turn, feel more anxious."

9.With the rapid progress of technology, the English language is changing fast. All the people have to face a choice:either ignore the development of the language and spend the rest of our lives wishing Shakespeare were alive,or keep pace with the Internet age, welcoming the new English which someone has once called Weblish."you can't avoid it for the simple reason that wherever a new language comes along,it surely impacts (影响) the language as a whole,"says Dr David Crystal,a famous language professor at the University of Wales.
However, there is great trouble with keeping up with the new English because there are so many new words and the old ones no longer mean what we thought they did.In the past if someone said they didn't have"Windows",you would have to suppose they lived in a cave without windows. But now,it is probably because they use a Mac,which is a computer.Spam, which once meant a not-so-good-kind of canned meat, now stands for unwanted"junk (垃圾)"email.
Spelling is changing too.Weblish loves to see nouns happily become verbs ( for example,"Please bookmark this site"),and verbs become nouns ("Send me the download").Verbs and prepositions are regularly thrown together to become new nouns or adjectives(for example,dial-up,logon,print-out,pull-down,upload),while others are created from a simple pairing of nouns:cyberspace, ethernet,Internet, hyperlink, metatag and netspeak.
68.We can infer from the first paragraph thatC.

19.Modern zoos are different from those built fifty years ago.At that time zoos were places where people could go to see animals from many parts of the world.The animals lived in cages with iron bars.Although the zoo keepers took good care of them,many of the animals did not feel comfortable,and they often fell ill.
In modern zoos,people can see animals in more natural conditions.The animals are given more freedom in larger places so that they can live as they would in nature.Even the appearance of zoos has changed.Trees and grass grow in cages,and water flows through the places the animals live in.There are few bars; instead,there is often a deep ditch,filled with water,which surrounds a space where several sorts of animals live together as they would naturally.In an American zoo,the visitor can walk through a huge special cage that is filled with trees,some small animals and many birds,and large enough for the birds to live naturally.In a zoo in New York,with the use of special night light,people can observe certain animals that are active only at night,when most zoos are closed.Some zoos have special places for visitors to watch animals that live in the desert or under water.
Modern zoos not only show animals to visitors,but also keep and save rare animals.For this reason,fifty years from now,the grandchildren of today's visitors will be able to enjoy watching these animals.

3.In an age dominated (控制的) by new med ia and the Internet, there are so many alternative ways of learning.Gone are the days when,if we couldn't make it into a classroom, the only real option was to pick up a book,or when audio materials consisted of bad quality cassettes or sporadic(时有时无的) radio and TV programmes. With the appearance of broadband access to the web,we have a whole new learning domain (统领) at our fingertips.Sophisticated learning materials in the form of text or high-quality audio are now available at the touch of a button, and tests and assignments can be submitted (进行) and marked online.Questions and learning, studying away from the classroom has never seemed easier.Yet many teachers would argue that face-to-face contact between teachers and students is an essential part of the language learning experience.Enter the concept of blended (融合的) learning,an approach to education which seeks to combi ne the best of new technology and actual human contact.
Advocates of blended learning argue that an approach to study which combines the benefits of new technology with the best aspects of face-to-face (often abbreviated to F2F) teaching, will achieve better results. For example, there are some aspects of study, like practical sessions, dealing with more subjective questions,or meeting the needs of an individual student, which require face-to-face human interaction, whereas the more mechanical aspects of learning, such as answers to clear-cut questions, can be managed simply and effectively in a remote environment using new technology.
Blended learning approaches have proven especially appropriate in language learning. For example,in an ELT (English Language Teaching ) environment,a simple scenario (剧情概要) might be a classroom session where a teacher asks a group of students to use a wiki to create a text. Students then go away and compose and edit the text remotely.During the next F2F session, the teacher express his opinion about their work.

4.Children's lives have changed greatly over the last 50years.But do they have a happier childhood than you or I did?
It's difficult to look back on one's own childhood without some element of nostalgia(怀旧的).I have four brothers and sisters,and my memories are all about being with them,playing board games on the living room floor,or spending days in the street with the other neighborhood children,racing up and down on our bikes,or exploring the nearby woods.My parents scarcely appear in these memories,except as providers either of meals or of severe blame after some particularly risky adventure.
These days,in the UK at least,the nature of childhood has changed dramatically.Firstly,families are smaller,and there are far more only children.It is common for both parents to work outside the home and there is the feeling that there just isn't time to bring up a large family,or that no one could possibly afford to have more than one child.As a result,today's boys and girls spend much of their time alone.Another major change is that youngsters today tend to spend a huge amount of their free time at home,inside.More than anything this is due to the fact that parents worry far more than they used to about real or imagined dangers,so they wouldn't dream of letting their children play outside by themselves.
Finally,the kind of toys children have and the way they play is totally different.Computer and video games have replaced the board games and more interesting activities of my childhood.The irony(令人啼笑皆非的事情) is that so many ways of playing games are called"interactive".The fact that you can play electronic games on your own further increases the sense of loneliness felt by many young people today.
Do these changes mean that children today have a less relaxing childhood than I had?I personally believe that they do,but perhaps every generation feels exactly the same.
25.What is the purpose of the direct question given in the first paragraph?C
A.To show who the passage is written for.
B.To gather people's opinions on childhood.
C.To get people's attention and lead in the topic.
D.To compare the childhood lives of two generations.
26.Which is NOT a reason for the changes?B
A.Families are smaller today.
B.It's too dangerous to play outside.
C.Toys can be played by children alone at home.
