Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! The program works because everyone's eyes are different. So in the future, you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are.

The eye-recognition(眼睛识别)program is already being tested in shops and banks in USA,Britain,Spain,Italy and Turkey. Soon this technology will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are.

Scientists are working on other systems, too. Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell ! We have already had machines that can tell who you are from your voice or the mark made by your finger.

But eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don't change as you get older,or get dirty like hands or fingers. And even twins have different eyes,so the program can be up to 94% correct, depending on how good the technology is. Some programs may only be right 51% of the time. In Britian,it was found that 91% of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition.

In the future, your computer will be looking you in the eye.

However, the distance record for hospital-bed pushing is still held by the men of Bruntsfield Bedding Center. This team from Edinburgh pushed a hospital bed 5,203 kilometers in 1979. It took the team 35 days to cover the distance.

Another group of record-makers held the highest dinner party in the world. Nine people from Sydney,Australia, climbed Mountain Huascaran on June 28th,1989. The climbers carried a dinner table, chairs, and a meal up the mountain. When they reached the top, they all put on warm suits for dinner.

When I was at University , T studied very hard. But a lot of my friends did very little work. Some did just enough to pass exams. Others didn't do quite enough. Fred Baines was one of them. He spent more time drinking in the Students' Union than working in the library.

Once at the end of a term,we had to take an important test on chemistry. The test had a hundred questions. Beside each question we had to write "True" or "False". While I was studying in my room the night before the test,Fred was watching TV. Fred usually worried a lot the night before a test. But on that night he looked perfectly calm. Then he told me of his plan. "It's very simple. There are a hundred questions and I have to get fifty correct to pass the test. I'll take a coin into the examination room. I haven't studied my chemistry book for months,so I'll just toss the coin. That way,I'm sure I'll get half the questions right."

The next day , Fred came happily into the exam room. As he sat tossing a coin for half an hour,he marked down his answers. Then he left, half an hour before the rest of us.

The next day,he saw the chemistry professor in the corridor. "Good morning, sir," he said. "Have you got the result of the test?" The professor looked at him and smiled, "Ah, it's you,Fred Baines.
