Scientists announced on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at a press conference in Washington, D. C that the more than half-century search for gravitational waves finally succeeded. They confirmed that they had detected gravitational waves caused by two black holes mixing together about 1. 3 billion years ago. It had been the first time the phenomenon was directly detected since it was predicted by Albert Einstein l00 years ago.

A China led space gravitational wave detection project is recruiting (招募) researchers from around the world, china news, com reported. The Tianqin project was started by Sun Yat-sen University in Zhuhhai. It centers on research of key technologies in space gravitational wave detection. To make the project more competitive, global talents in areas such as gravity theory, space gravity experiments and precision measurement are sought with an annual salary of up to 1 million yuan ($ 153.000). according to the report.

Gravitational waves are not easily detectable. When they reach the Earth, an extremely sensitive detector is needed, as other sources of noise can overwhelm the signal. Luo Jun. president of Sun Yat sen University said the detection of gravitational waves is a huge challenge and the project reflects the research competence of China.

The 15-billion yuan project aims to send wave-detection satellites into space in 15 to 20 years with construction of a research center and observatory to be started soon. Researchers will likely cooperate with other scientists from the European Space Agency’s LISA Project.

Gravitational waves are ripples (涟漪) in space time generated during the earliest moment of the universe, when the universe experienced a brief but disordered period of expansion. The detection of gravitational waves is believed to help scientists understand more mysteries of the universe.

B. They came out about half a century ago.

C. They wore proved true by Albert Einstein.

D. They have been discovered recently.

Teachers say the digital age has had a good influence and a not-so-good influence on this generation of American teenagers. More than 2,000 high school teachers took an online survey.

75 percent of the teachers said the Internet and digital search tools have had a “mostly positive” effect on their students' research habits and skills. But 87 percent agreed that these technologies "make the students not have enough attention.” And 64 percent said the technologies “do more to distract students than to help them academically.”Many students think “doing research” now means just doing a quick search on Google.

Judy Buchanan is a director of the National Writing Project. Ms. Buchanan says digital research tools are helping students learn more, and learn faster. Teachers really like these tools, because they are ways to make some of learning exciting. Young people enjoy using these tools. And the goal is to help them become creative students of meaningful work, and not just that kind of copyist.

But one problem the survey found is that many students don't have a good understanding of how to use the digital knowledge well. In other words, they trust(信任) too much of the information. Judy Buchanan says these students have not developed the skills they need to tell whether the online information is good or bad.

Another problem the survey found is something that might not seem like a problem, at all, being able to quickly find information online. Teachers say the ability of their students to work hard to find answers is becoming weaker. They say students depend too much on search engines (引擎) and do not make enough use of printed books or research, librarians.

Besides, many teachers are also worried about the problem that the Internet makes it easy for students to copy work done by others, instead of using their own abilities.

1.Most of the teachers might agree that .

A. the digital age only has had a good influence on teenagers.

B. digital search tools have had a positive effect on students’ research.

C. the digital age has had a bad influence on students’ study.

D. technologies can only distract students.

2.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean?

A. Google can do all the job for students.

B. Google helps students do research.

C. Students just use something they found online when doing research.

D. A quick search on Google means a success in research.

3.Which of the following is NOT the disadvantages of digital age?

A. Online information may not be reliable.

B. Students can easily find the information they needs.

C. Copying work may arise among students.

D. Students won’t use their own abilities.

Is Online School for You?

Have you ever wished you didn’t have to wake up early and go all the way to school? For 700,000 American kids, this wish comes true. 1. This kind of learning has different names: online learning or distance learning. Regardless of what it is called, this idea may create an impression of a lonely kid reading pages of information on a computer screen rather than from a book or an image of another kid spending the day playing video games instead of learning mathematics or reading a book. Where online education is concerned, both of these are false! Actually, online learning simply means learning differently.

2. Flexibility is the main advantage. Students can attend school wherever and whenever they desire. Homework can be turned in from anywhere the student has Internet access. Additionally, many online schools will allow students to work at their own pace.

Another advantage of online schooling is with the variety of courses. Most online schools teach the same basic classes like English, math, science, and history. 3. However, traditional schools are often unable to offer these types of classes if there are not enough students.

Online schools also have different types of learning tools for kids to use. For example, many online schools have special Websites where only students registered in online classes can watch videos, see lessons presented, or chat with teachers and other students. Some online schools have live class times where students can call and talk with the teacher directly. 4.

Computer technology is amazing, and we use computers for chatting with our friends, listening to music, and playing games. 5. Since 2006, at least 38 states either have their own online schools or made rules for students attending them. It looks like online schools are here to stay, but only you can decide if this type of learning is right for you.

A. Online schools offer many benefits for the learners.

B. Of course, there are some drawbacks of going to school online.

C. Almost every part of our lives is affected by it, and school is no exception.

D. They attend school over the Internet using ordinary home or library computers.

E. Other online schools even have online clubs where kids can talk about their hobbies.

F. Some online schools also offer specialized classes in subjects such as space science, French, or zoology.

G. For some students, online school may be ideal, but for others, traditional school may better meet their needs.
