I was coaching girls’ track in Iowa and there was a young discus(铁饼)thrower on the team with  36  potential(潜力). Here goes her story.
At the end of our training   37  the district track meet, this discus thrower, Lucy, asked me if she   38  come to the school on Sunday for a little   39  training. I agreed. The year before, she had placed second at the district meet and   40  missed going to the state meet. She had won every discus event,   41  that district meet! And, her throws in the competitions had   42  been between 106’1” and 110’10”.
Something began to   43  me. Why couldn't Lucy   44  to get the discus to 111 feet? I wondered if it was more a psychological barrier(心理的障碍)  45  a physical one. I decided to try something   46 . I made up my mind to   47  to Lucy.
On Sunday, after her drills, I said, “Why don’t you throw five or six good ones for me to  48 ?” She began to throw again, but   49  were farther than what she had already thrown. But, I didn’t tell Lucy. As I was measuring the   50  one, I pulled out some more tape (量尺) and yelled out to her, “ Come to see this! This one is  51 ! ” It wasn’t. Lucy, thinking that this was a personal best, jumped wildly into the air in  52  .
The next afternoon, at the district meet, Lucy   53  with a personal best throw of 114’10”! Just 24 hours after I had lied to her. However, this time she had   54  thrown the discus four feet further than she had ever thrown it before.

Eighty-year-old retired tailor, James McKay, spent Saturday night in jail after     thirty-year-old Keith Smith over the head       his walking stick. McKay's wife, Laurence told us that while McKay is usually a       person, he had been       to this act of violence by getting wet just once too often.

Smith lives above the McKays and it appears that not only is he a keen gardener, he is also a       collector. Unfortunately for him, the water he sent over his balcony every day ended up on the McKay's, or too often, on the McKays      .

“For the last fortnight, since Smith moved into the flat above us, we have hardly dared to go to our      ,” said Laurence. She added that it wasn't so much the water falling onto their balcony from Smith watering his plant       bothered them, it was more the way he cleaned his fish tanks. “We'd be       there happily reading our newspapers, when       so much water would come from above that we'd be as wet as if we'd       with our clothes on! Neither could we get rid of the       of fish!”

And on Saturday evening it was just too      . “It was James's birthday,” explained Laurence, “and I'd made him a birthday cake. The candles were a great sight as you can imagine, but James didn't get to blow them out.”      , Smith emptied one of his larger tanks over his balcony and both the McKays and the cake were wet      . Rarely had Laurence seen McKay move so fast. “I couldn't       him. He was up there in a flash. It was the fastest I'd seen him move since 1964.”

Smith is not going to take things further with the police. He has also promised to change his       from now on. And what of James McKay?       he left the police station, a large crowd of supporters sang him, “Happy Birthday”. “      the most exciting birthday      !” said the cheerful old man. “The best since my adolescence I'd say!”

One of my fondest memories as a child is going by the river and sitting idly on the bank. There I would   16   the peace and quiet, watch the water rush   17   and listen to the singing of birds and the rustling of   18   in the trees. I would also watch the bamboo trees   19   under pressure from the wind and watch them   20   gracefully to their original position after the wind had   21   .

When I think about the bamboo tree's ability to bounce back to its original position, the word "resilience" comes to mind. When used in   22   to a person this word means the ability to readily   23   from shock, depression or any other situation that stretches the limits of a person's   24   .

Have you ever felt like you are at your   25   point? Thankfully, you have survived the experience to live to talk about it.

During the   26   you probably felt a mix of emotions that threatened your health. You felt emotionally drained,   27   exhausted and you most likely stood   28   physical symptoms.

Life is a   29   of good times and bad times, happy moments and unhappy moments. The next time you are experiencing one of those bad times or unhappy   30   that take you close to your breaking point, bend,   31   don't break. Try your best not to let the situation get the best of you.

A   32   of hope will take you through the unpleasant ordeal (考验). With   33   for a better tomorrow or a better situation, things may not be as bad as they seem to be. The unpleasant ordeal may be easier to   34   if the final result is worth having.

If life gets   35   and you are at your breaking point, show resilience. Like the bamboo tree, bend, but don't break!
