Once a man asked a painter to painting a picture for him. He told the artist he didn't want any shadows in the picture, just sunshine, but the artist did so. When the man saw the finishing picture, he was disappointing. Without shadows, everything in the picture looks flat and unreal. The point of the story is that we need both shadows and sunshine to have a completely picture, just as we need both rain and sun to have living world. People, too, needs both sadness and happiness. We often learn important lesson during sad times. So when we feel sad, we should try to stop and think about that we might learn from the experience.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Four years ago, we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no waiting in lines and no checkout? Or could we create a physical store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go, where you could experience the idea of ¡°just walk out shopping¡±.

Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no checkout required. We created the world¡¯s most advanced shopping technology, so you never have to wait in line. With our ¡°just walk out shopping¡± experience, simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take the products you want, and go! No lines, no checkout.

Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Our ¡°just walk out technology¡± automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart. When you¡¯re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we¡¯ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt.

We offer delicious ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made fresh every day by our on-site chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. Our selection of foodstuff ranges from bread and milk to cheeses and locally made chocolates. You¡¯ll find well-known brands we love, plus special finds we¡¯re excited to introduce to customers. For a quick home-cooked dinner, pick up one of our chef-designed Amazon Meal Kits, and you can make a meal for two in about 30 minutes.

Our 1,800-square-foot shopping space is conveniently compact(½ô´ÕµÄ), so busy customers

can get in and out fast. It is located at 2131, 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. All you need is an Amazon account, a supported smartphone, and the free Amazon Go app.

Amazon Go is currently only open to Amazon employees in our testing program, and will be open to the public soon.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿The Netherlands on Monday launched its first-ever ¡°intelligent bicycle¡±, fitted with a set of electronic devices (É豸) to help bring down the high accident rate among elderly cyclists in this country.

The intelligent bicycle runs on electricity. Its seat shakes when other cyclists approach from behind, while the handlebars do the same when obstacles appear ahead to inform cyclists to pay attention to the danger. It also has a cradle (ÖÃÎï¼Ü) in which a computer can be inserted (²åÈë), to wirelessly connect and ¡°talk¡± to the bicycle through a particular application. The computer also flashes a bright signal if there is an approaching obstacle in the bicycle¡¯s path, like a tree, or if another cyclist comes up from behind intending to pass.

A commercial-available bicycle is expected to be on the market in the next two years and should sell for between 1, 700 euros to 3, 200 euros per bicycle. It weighs about 55 pounds but researchers are working on making the on-board systems smaller.

¡®¡®Accidents often happen when cyclists look behind them or get frightened when they are passed at high speed,¡± said Maurice Kwakkernaat, one of the scientists involved in the project, ¡°The on-board system technology has already been at work in the automotive (×Ô¶¯µÄ) industry¡±.

¡°More and more elderly people are using a bicycle£¬not only for short distances£¬but also for longer distances,¡± Dutch Environment Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen said, ¡°This type of bicycle is truly needed in the Netherlands because it will help us bring down the number of elderly people who are injured every year and allow them to continue enjoying cycling,¡± she said£®

¡¾1¡¿What does the text mainly talk about?

A. The newly-invented bicycle can warn of danger£®

B. The intelligent computer runs on electricity£®

C. More elderly people enjoy electronic devices£®

D. The means of transportation in the Netherlands£®

¡¾2¡¿When a car appears ahead£¬the intelligent bicycle will_________£®

C. It will be lighter in weight£® D. It will be free for everyone£®

¡¾4¡¿More and more elderly people in the Netherlands______________£®

A. try to invent intelligent bicycles B. enjoy themselves by cycling

Today my daughter and I went to sell eggs at a parking lot.It is a really cold day.I didn't even want to go outside. As we pulled into parking lot,we saw a man sat on the side of the road.He was holding a paper plate which said "I need help!".

He was still sitting there as we left for the parking lot,and I asked my daughter "Should they get him some food and some money?"and she said "OK.".So I pulled up next to him,got out of the car,but gave him all my egg money.I still had another dozen egg in the car,and asked if he wanted them, but he said no.I felt freezing just standing there talking with him for a minute, and he must have been sitting there since hours.

I'm glad we stopped, got out of the car and talked with him for a minute.I hope he will have a warm and comfort place to sleep tonight.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Floods are second only to fire as the most common of all natural disasters. They occur almost everywhere in the world, resulting in widespread damage and even death.Consequently, scientists have long tried to perfect their ability to predict floods. So far,the best that scientists can do is to recognize the potential for flooding in certain conditions. There are a number of conditions, from deep snow on the ground to human error, which cause flooding.

When deep snow melts it creates a large amount of water.Although deep snow alone rarely causes floods, when it occurs together with heavy rain and sudden warmer weather it can lead to serious flooding. If there is a fast snow melt on top of frozen or very wet ground, flooding is more likely to occur than when the ground is not frozen.Frozen ground or ground that is very wet cannot absorb the additional water created by the melting snow.Melting snow also contributes to high water levels in rivers and streams.

Rivers that are covered in ice can also lead to flooding. When ice begins to melt, the surface of the ice cracks and breaks into large pieces. These pieces of ice move and float down the river,They can form a dam in the river, causing the water behind the dam to rise and flood the land upstream. If the dam breaks suddenly, then the large amount of water held behind the dam can flood the areas downstream too.

Broken ice dams are not the only dam problems that can cause flooding. When a large human-made dam breaks or fails to hold the water collected behind it,the results can be devastating.Dams contain such huge amounts of water behind them that when sudden breaks occur, the great force of the water is like a great tidal wave. The dam waters can travel tens of kilometres, cover the ground in metres of mud and litter, and drown and crush every thing and creature in their path.

Although scientists cannot always predict exactly when floods will occur, they do know a great deal about when floods are probably going to occur.Deep snow,ice-covered rivers, and weak dams are all strong conditions for potential flooding.

B. It is too hard for water to run off.

D. It makes the snow melt too quickly.

¡¾3¡¿Which of the following words has the closest meaning to the underlined word "devastating" in Paragraph 4?

A. Positive. B. Disappointing.

C. Impressive. D. Damaging.

¡¾4¡¿What is mainly talked about in the passage?

C. Why floods do huge damage. D. How to prevent floods effectively.
