Good morning everybody! It's my honor to stand here and make a speech about ¡°Mother¡¯s Day¡±.

Mother¡¯s Day has its origin in ancient Greece. It is an international festival which is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. In order to thank them for their years¡¯ of hard work, people always try their best to make their mothers spend the festival happily. On the day, every mother will dress up. And children will offer gifts to their mothers, saying ¡°I love you!¡± At the words, their mothers will feel very proud and satisfied.

As far as I¡¯m concerned, it is important to celebrate Mother¡¯s Day. On the day, mothers will feel relaxed both mentally and physically. So the family should get together and have fun with each other.

That's all. Thank you for your listening.

My sister grabbed the to call the fire brigade (Ïû·À¶Ó) and, together with the dog, we ran away from the house.

Once the lady was that some order had been restored, she apologized for being to stay longer, as she had to take her daughter to a dance performance. She to return later to check in on us.

One of those big social networking sites, Facebook, has attracted over 58 million members. Commentator Melody Cramer is no longer one of them. Here is what she shares with us about her story.

I deleted all 1,281 of my coworkers, secondgrade classmates and people who I don¡¯t know at all. I shut down my account, completely. I¡¯m 30, and I¡¯ve been on Facebook since March of 2004, which makes me one of the website¡¯s earliest users.

At first, I used it obsessively. If I had a free moment, I¡¯d log on to see whether my friends had updated their profiles. I¡¯d sit alone scrolling through these updates and then run into someone at a coffee shop and have nothing to say because I already knew everything about them, and they knew everything about me.

In November, I went to my tenyear high school reunion and was not pleasantly surprised. Lauren became a model, Josh went to law school, Dina was a teacher. I hadn¡¯t talked to any of them since graduation, but I knew exactly what they were doing, both now and last week. But lately, I¡¯m overwhelmed(Ó¦½Ó²»Ï¾). Facebook opened up to everyone, not just college students, and my coworkers started to join, which meant they now knew what I was doing when I wasn¡¯t at work.

And as a rule: you can NOT make friends with your coworkers because then they¡¯ll ask you the next day. But I thought we were friends. And you are friends but not the kind of friends who tell each other what they do outside of work. So now the people you work with can see what you did last night, and you¡¯re constantlyworrying what people might say about what you did last night instead of actually doing anything tonight. So I quit. I became a 30yearold Luddite, a person who is strongly against technology development. I¡¯ve returned to how the world worked when I was 20, before I knew when my friends and coworkers were counting down the seconds to vacation or entering a complicated relationship. I¡¯m hoping life will be a lot simpler now. People

will be more mysterious now that I actually have to talk to them to find out their favorite books or hobbies orneurosis(Éñ¾Ö¢). I don¡¯t know when my college roommate goes to the supermarket, and I think I¡¯m a better person for not knowing. In fact, you could say getting off a social network was the best thing I¡¯ve done this week.

My aunt Edith was a widow of 50, working as a secretary, when doctors discovered she had got what was then thought to be a very serious heart illness.

Aunt Edith didn¡¯t accept defeat easily. She began studying medical reports in library and found an article in a magazine about a well-known heart doctor, Dr. Michael Debakey, of Houston, Texas. He had saved the life of someone with the same illness. The article said Dr. Debakey¡¯s fees were very high; Aunt Edith couldn¡¯t possibly pay them. But could he tell her of someone whose fee she could pay?

So Aunt Edith wrote to him. She simply listed her reasons for wanting to live: her three children, who would be on their own in three or four years and among them a little girl who always dreamed of traveling and seeing the world. There wasn¡¯t a word of self-pity -- only warmth and humor and the joy of living. She mailed the letter, not really expecting an answer.

A few days later, my doorbell rang. Aunt Edith didn¡¯t wait to come in; she stood in the hall and read aloud:

Your beautiful letter moved me very deeply. If you can come to Houston, there will be no charge for either the hospital or the operation.

Hurricane Sandy was a hurricane that destroyed parts of the Caribbean and the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States during late October 2012, with minor impacts in the Southeastern and Midwestern states and Eastern Canada. Sandy, classified as the eighteenth named storm and tenth hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, was a Category 2 storm at its peak intensity. While it was a Category 1 storm off the coast of the Northeastern United States, the storm became the largest Atlantic hurricane on record. Previous estimates of losses due to damage and business interruption are estimated at $65.6 billion, which would make it the second-costliest Atlantic hurricane, behind only Hurricane Katrina. At least 253 people were killed along the path of the storm in eight countries.

Sandy developed from a tropical wave in the western Caribbean Sea on October 22, quickly strengthened, and was upgraded to Tropical Storm six hours later. Sandy moved slowly northward toward the Greater Antilles and gradually becoming stronger. On October 24, Sandy became a hurricane, made landfall near Kingston, Jamaica, a few hours later, entered into the Caribbean Sea again and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane. On October 25, Sandy hit Cuba, and then weakened to a Category 1 hurricane. Early on October 26, Sandy moved through the Bahamas. On October 27, Sandy briefly weakened to a tropical storm and then restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. Early on October 29, Sandy turned from north to northwest and then moved a shore near Atlantic City, New Jersey, as a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds.

In the United States, Hurricane Sandy affected 24 states, including the entire eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine and west across the Appalachian Mountains to Michigan and Wisconsin, with particularly severe damage in New Jersey and New York. Its storm hit New York City on October 29, flooding streets, tunnels and subway lines and cutting power in and around the city. Damage in the US is estimated at over $63 billion.
