【题目】Many kids help out around the house with chores such as emptying the dishwasher, putting laundry away, and taking out the trash. In exchange, some kids get allowances or other rewards such as extra computer time.

But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. Susie Walton, a parenting educator and family coach, believes that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn’t worth doing unless you get something in return. ’’Running any kind of household is a team effort, Susie said. "A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and that families decide together how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like everyone wants it to look.”

Other people believe that getting a cash allowance or other rewards motivates kids to do chores, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to earn money. There are also new applications that give kids points and digital gifts that can be redeemed (兑取) either online or in the real world. With the ChoreMonster app, kids earn digital points by completing chores that they can turn in for real-life rewards such as extra Xbox time or a trip to the mall. “Our goal is to encourage kids to earn rewards,’’ says Chris Bergman, founder of ChoreMonster. “Kids need positive reinforcement to help motivate them."

What do you think? Should kids be rewarded for doing chores? Or should kids help out around their homes without getting anything in return?

【题目】The day finally came. I was very excited as I stood in line, waiting to receive my high school diploma. I looked around at the graduating class of our small Christian school and wondered how we had grown up so fast. After that weekend we would go our separate ways. Many planned on attending college far away, as I did. Others had jobs lined up and few were thinking about marriage.

Directly in front of me was a friend I’d known for six years; we had been on many adventures together. He grinned, looking a little smug(洋洋得意的). He and a couple of students had played one last triok before they graduated: The night before, they’d slipped into the principal’s home and used rolls of toilet paper to decorate his house and yard. I eyed the principal on the stage. He gave no indication that anything was wrong.

We moved slowly up in line. My friend walked across the stage and received his diploma. Then my name was called. I took a deep breath, nervously climbed the steps, crossed the stage under the hot lights and stopped in front of the principal. He gave me a big smile, shook my hand and handed me my diploma. I couldn’t wait to open the diploma case and find my name, certifying that I had graduated. However, when my friend opened his case, we all burst out laughing. Instead of a diploma, a single square of toilet paper was placed inside.

Our high school principal had a great sense of humor and took this opportunity to play a trick back on the boys. I thought they were required to clean his house and yard, but they got off easily. They were allowed to graduate.

Sometimes we get lucky whenn we do something wrong. However, sometimes we don’t. I often wonder how those who do wrong things get rid of troubles. We have decisions to make throughout our lives. The surest way to stay out of trouble is to avoid it in the first place.

【题目】What makes you grow? While rolling many ideas around in my head lo write this piece. I narrowed my focus a bit and chose: family and sense of purpose.

My family keeps me excited to be alive-beginning the day with a morning kiss from the man I love. He is there to listen and guide, to laugh and sigh, to explore and relax, and to make each day meaningful. Together we have three delightful children. Even though they have caused various gray hairs over the years, they have also provided love and laughter.

Friends fall into the family category (范畴) as well. Although they are not cut of the same cloth, they are part of the same quilt. True friends are often as giving .and maybe even more giving as family. Even though our friends enter our life later than our family, strong relation exists. In fact, sometimes friends know us better than family.

The second drive is a sense of purpose. While impossible to describe, it is very easy to picture as we think of even thing of value that touches us. A purpose may be a happy family, home life, and so on. Actually in most cases it is a combination of all these as they affect our lives deeply.

Purpose is new, fresh, exciting and always changing. You’re taking up the same job each day except sometimes challenged. I always wanted to be a teacher, for example, and I chose junior high French. However, over the years my tasks changed so that I had various opportunities to teach K-12 and beyond in a wide range of subjects, levels and school districts. I remained in the same profession for more than 40 years but never in the same setting.
