NASDAQ, standing for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation system, is one of the largest markets in the world for the trading of stocks（股票）. The number of companies listed on NASDAQ is more than that on any of the other stock exchanges in the United States, including the New York Stock Exchange （NYSE）,and the American Stock Exchange （AMEX）.The majority of companies listed on NASDAQ are smaller than most of those on the NYSE and AMEX. The term over-the-counter refers to the direct nature of the trading, as in a store where goods are handed over a counter.

One of Britain’s bravest women told yesterday how she helped to catch suspected(可疑的) police killer David Bieber--and was thanked with flowers by the police. It was also said that she could be in line for a share of up to ￡30,000 reward money.

Vicki Brown, 30, played a very important role in ending the nationwide manhunt.

Vicki, who has worked at the Royal Hotel for four years, told of her terrible experience when she had to steal into Bieber’s bedroom and to watch him secretly. Then she waited alone for three hours while armed police prepared to storm the building.
