I met Mrs. Neidl in the ninth grade on a stage-design team for a play and she was one of the directors. Almost instantly I loved her. She had an unpleasant voice and a direct way of speaking,   41  she was encouraging and inspiring. For some reason, she was impressed with my work and me.

Mrs. Neidl would ask me for my   42  . She wanted to know how I thought we should   43   things. At first I had no idea how to answer because I knew   44   about stage design! But I slowly began to respond to her   45. It was cause and effect: She believed I had opinions, so I began to   46 them. She trusted me to complete things, so I completed them perfectly. She loved how   47 I was, so I began to show up to paint more and more. She believed in me, so I began to believe in myself.

Mrs. Neidl's   48  that year was, "Try it. We can always paint over it   49  !"I began to take   50  . I had been so afraid of failing but suddenly there was no failing--only things to be   51   upon. I learned to dip my brush into the paint and   52   create something.

The shy, quiet freshman achieved success that year. I was   53   in the program

as "Student Art Assistant" because of the time and effort I'd put in. It was that year that I   54   I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing stage design.

Being on that stage-design team   55   Mrs. Neidl changed me completely. Not only was I stronger and more competent than I had thought, but I also   56   a strong interest and a world I hadn't known existed. She taught me not to   57  what people think I should do: She taught me to take chances and not be   58  . Mrs. Neidl was my comforter when I was upset. Her   59   in me has inspired me to do things that I never imagined   60  .

The largest-ever chariot pit(战车坑)of relics with carts and horse bones has been discovered in Henan Province. It may lead to the uncovering of chariot pit groups that could be a key to understanding Chinese civilizations that existed more than 2,000 years ago.

Experts said the relics are dated more than 300 years earlier than the famous warriors(武士)in Shanxi Province. What excited the experts were two other projects that located two huge pits with similar features.

“It is absolutely a miracle. These relics indicate that there could be a tomb group in this area, which is likely to be important for China's archaeological(考古学的)studies,”said Ma Juncai,a leading relic researcher in the province.

In ancient China, carts, sheep, spoons and so on were buried to ensure that dead people had a happy afterlife. The number and quality of the sacrifices indicated the social status of the dead The custom was carried into the Qin Dynasty. Emperor Qinshihuang's tomb, located near Xi'an,the capital of Shanxi Province,is accompanied by thousands of wood or clay figures of warriors and horses. The tomb is probably the most well-known.

The discovered pit measures 10.4 meters long,8.4 meters wide and 5 meters deep. It holds 20 carts in different sizes. The smallest one is 1.05 meters long and 1.3 meters wide.

Experts think that 40 horses are likely to be found as well. Careful plans need to be made to deal with the demanding uncovering.“The clay is very weak and a small misstep can destroy the whole project. That's why we need to take every step very carefully to protect these cherished cultural relics,”Ma said.

According to the report by Baekeland and Hartmann, two American authoritative psychotogical research centres, the "short sleepers" had been more or less average in their sleep needs until the men were in their teens. But at about age 15 or so, the men voluntarily began cutting down their nightly sleep time because of pressures from school, work and other activities. These men tended to view their nightly periods of unconsciousness as bothersome interruptions, in their daily routines.
In general, these "short sleeps" appeared ambitious, active, energetic, cheerful,, conformist (循规蹈矩的) in their opinions, and very sure about their career choices. They often held several jobs at once, or workers full - or part - time while going to school. And many of them had a strong urge to appear "normal" or "acceptable" to their friends and associates. When asked to recall their dreams, the "short sleepers" did poorly.More than this, they seemed to prefer not remembering. In similar fashion, their usual way of dealing with psychological problems was to deny that the problem existed, and then to keep busy m the hope that the trouble would go away. The sleep patterns of the “short sleepers" were similar to, but less extreme than, sleep patterns shown by many mental patients categorized as manic (疯人).
The "long sleepers" were quite different indeed.Baekeland and Hartmann report that these young men had been lengthy sleeps since childhood. They seemed to enjoy their sleep, protected it, and were quite concerned when they were occasionally deprived (剥夺) of their desired 9 hours of nightly bed rest. They tended to recall their dreams much better than the "short sleepers." did. Many of the "long sleepers" were shy, anxious, introverted (内向), inhibited (压抑) , passive, mildly depressed, and unsure of themselves (particularly in social situations).Several openly states that sleep was an escape from their daily problems.
50.According to the text, which is probably the writer' s real attitude towards these two living habits ____.
A.both of them are healthy habits
B.not both of them are unhealthy habits
C.either of them is not unhealthy habits
D.neither of them is healthy habits
51.When sometimes they cannot enjoy adequate sleep, the long sleepers might ____.
A.feel extremely depressed        B.become energetic
C.appeared disturbed         D.feel disappointed
52.The writer implies (暗示) that short sleepers _____ in the text.
A.are ideally vigorous even under the pressures of life
B.often neglect the consequences of inadequate(不足的)sleep
C.do not know how to relax properly
D.are more unlikely to run into mental problems

A three-year independent investigation into the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon has yielded new eyewitness evidence which, according to the Southern California-based researchers who conducted the investigation conclusively (and unfortunately), establishes as a historical fact that the violence which took place in Arlington that day was not the result of a surprise attack by suicide hijackers, but rather a military black operation involving a carefully planned and skillfully executed deception."
A CNN Reporter at the scene states that there is no evidence that a 757 hit the Pentagon.
What hit the Pentagon? A Boeing 757 loaded with passengers and fuel right? Who was on Flight 757? According to the Flight Information there were No Arabs on it. That makes me wonder if Flight 757 actually existed at all.
From the pictures and the videos, people can find that there are several doubtful points that need to be taken into consideration, for example the marker line on the grass in the satellite and ground pictures, the different colors of the smoke, the hole which the plane impacted, and the standing pylons (架线塔).
Also, from the comparison of the different pictures, people can find some other strange points. For example, the gear (齿轮) is not the matching one. The wreckage of the plane is not the one from the American Airlines. The glass on the pavement of the pole is another doubtful point. The last thing that need considering is about the collapse. One of the gif video shows the plane impacting the Pentagon. The only problem with this video footage is that it has been altered (改变) and can not be fully trusted.
These crash photos and videos shown here clearly have been doctored (篡改) and don't even match the physics of what happened. So where is the real video? It leaves me many questions. Is this a missile? It is a real enigma.

A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light cannot get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying.

Because no light can get out, people can’t see black holes. Space telescopes with special tools can help find black holes. The special tools can see how stars that are very close to black holes act differently from other ones.

Black holes can be big or small. Scientists think the smallest black holes are as small as just one atom. These black holes are very tiny but have the mass of a large mountain. Mass is the amount of matter, or “staff”, in an object.

Another kind of black hole is called “stellar”(星球黑洞). Its mass can be up to 20 times more than the mass of the sun. There may be many stellar mass black holes in Earth’s galaxy. Earth’s galaxy is called the Milky Way.

The largest black holes are called “supermassive”(超大质量黑洞). These black holes have masses that are more than one million suns together. Scientists have found proof that every large galaxy contains a supermassive black hole at its center. The supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy has a mass equal to about four million suns and would fit inside a very large ball that could hold a few million Earths.

Scientists think the smallest black holes formed when the universe began. Stellar black holes are made when the center of a very big star falls in upon itself, or falls apart. When this happens, it exploded part of the star into space. Scientists think supermassive black holes were made at the same time as the galaxy they are in.

A black hole can not be seen because strong gravity pulls all of the light into the middle of the black hole. But scientists can see how the strong gravity affects the stars and gas around the black hole. Scientists can study stars to find out if they are flying around, or orbiting a black hole.

When a black hole and a star are close together, high-energy light is made. This kind of light cannot be seen with human eyes. Scientists use satellites and telescopes in space to see the high-energy light.

1.The gravity of a black hole may become so strong that light cannot get out when ____________.

A. the star is going to die

B. special tools are used on it

C. other stars come close to it

D. it is seen from the space telescopes

2.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A. A black hole can be very tiny but extremely heavy.

B. The gravity of a black hole holds all light in its center.

C. Scientists observe high-energy light through their own eyes.

D. Some small black holes came into being as early as the universe.

3.The underlined word “galaxy” in Paragraph 5 means __________.

A. a black hole                       B. the Milky Way

C. a series of stars                    D. a planet near the earth

4.What does the last sentence in Paragraph 5 suggest?

A. Neither the sun nor the earth is as heavy as a black hole.

B. There is a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way.

C. The supermassive black hole had existed before the Milky Way was formed.

D. There is a reason why the large black holes are called “supermassive”.

5.The last two paragraph mainly focus on the question of _________.

A. what a black hole is

B. how black holes form

C. how big black holes are

D. how scientists know about black holes
