18.Recently,scientists are reported to have grown a living human"brain".The team at Aston University in UK created tiny bunch of cells which act like a mini nervous system.
They believe it could help find a cure for worse mental conditions like Parkinson's disease.Professor Michael Coleman is leading the research program.He explained,"We are aiming to be able to study the human brain at the most basic level,using an actual living human cell system.Cells have to be alive and operating efficiently to enable us to really understand how the brain works."The experiment involves changing cells from a cancer tumor (肿瘤)and making them behave like brain cells.
Although far from finished,researchers hope the false brain cells will give them a greater understanding of how real brains work.This,in turn,could significantly further research into conditions which affect the brain.Neil Hunt,chief leader of the research group,said,"It is still very early days,but in the future the research could lead to a useful tool for looking into dementia (痴呆)."
The technique could also provide a way to carry on animal test and is being supported by the Humane Research Trust (HRT).The scientists predict that over the next ten years a million people will develop dementia.Professor Coleman believes their findings could change this.He said,"We hope our research will provide scientists with a new and highly relational human experimental model to help them understand the brain better and develop new drugs to control the related disease.However,the biggest challenge at present is that we are greatly short of fund,which will slow our research."

15.Trying to create a happy family atmosphere can sometimes feel like a
challenge in today's world.Everyone's busy, technology seems to take over a lot of spare time, and many adults and children feel stressed. However, there are some steps you can take to keep your family happy in the modern world.Step1:Eat Dinner Together Daily
Take time out from your activities to eat dinner together as a family.Talk about your day, reconnect with one another, and discuss your future plans. It's a great way for parents and kids to stay involved in one another's lives.Step 2:Allow your Children to Have a Voice
Telling kids,"It's my way or the highway,"isn't likely to yield happy results.Obviously, parents need to be in charge and need to be strict with kids accordingly, but kids should have some right in the family.Listen to your children's concerns, allow your children to offerinput, and be willing to admit when you're wrong.
Step 3:Establish Clear Rules
Happy families need clear rules about expectations and behaviors that will not be tolerated. It can be helpful to write out a list of rules and keep them displayed in the house.Create rules that emphasize the importance of treating one another with respect.Encourage every family member to participate in establishing the household rules.Step 4:Develop Family Traditions
Family traditions can help a family feel united.Traditions don't need to be reserved for holidays.Instead, you can create weekly or even daily family traditions. For example, make Sunday nights family game night and take turns picking out board games.Or make a tradition at bedtime where each family member talks about the highlight of their day.Creating such traditions will help your family stay connected.

12.Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck.I'm not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don't come into play because they do.Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that's just the reality of how life is.
However,to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And,in addition to that,_in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practising. To become great at certain things,it'll require even more time, time that most people won't put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love.If you don't enjoy what you do,it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It's sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there's a huge chance that you're wrong anyway.
Whatever you do,if you want to become great at it,you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a long period of time.If you're not willing to put in the time and work, don't expect to receive any rewards.Consistent, hard work won't guarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become really good at whatever it is you put all that work into.

19.Students and Technology in the Classroom
I love my Black berry-it's my little connection to the large world that can go anywhere with me.I also love my laptop computer,as it holds all of my writing and thoughts.Despite this love of technology,I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices(设备) and truly communicate with others.
On occasion,I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas.Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom,I have a rule-no laptops,iPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy.
Most students assume(假设) that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There's a bit of truth to that. Some students assume that I am anti-technology.There's no truth in that all.I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversations and truly engage complex ideas.Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas.I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas.I want them to push each other to think differently and to make connections between the course material and the class discussion.
I've been teaching my history class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create.Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.
I'm not saying that I won't ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change,I'm sticking to my plan.A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.
