Lots of people aren’t satisfied with their present weight, but most people aren’t sure how to change it. You may want to look like the models, actresses or actors in magazines or on TV, but those goals might not be healthy or realistic for you.

So what should you do about your weight control?

The best way to find out if you are at a healthy weight or if you need to lose or gain weight is to go to see a doctor or dietitian(营养学家) for advice. They will compare your weight with healthy standards and help you set goals. If it turns out that you can benefit from weight loss, then you can follow a few of the simple suggestions listed below to get started.

People who lose weight quickly by crash dieting or other extreme measures usually gain back all of the pounds they lost, because they haven’t completely changed their habits. Therefore, the best ways of weight management are those that you can keep for a lifetime.

Small changes are a lot easier to stick with than big ones. Try reducing the size of what you eat.          Once you have that down, start gradually introducing healthier foods and exercise into your life.

All in all, it’s a good idea to keep a healthy weight because it’s just that: healthy.

A. Try giving up regular soda for a week.

B. Try to mind what you eat and stop when you’re full.

C. Weight management is about long-term success.

D. Besides, no magical diet will make you look like someone else.

E. Being healthy is really about being at a weight that is right for you.

F. Changing from time to time is also a good idea.

G. Weight loss is a hard topic.

Being healthy means taking care of yourself physically and mentally. Here are some of my best tips on how to do both:
Break a bad habit.
You don’t really “break” habits. __【小题1】__. So if your problem is that you eat too much when you get home from work, find something new to do that is incompatible(不能共存的)with what you usually do. You can’t walk around the track at the school and pig out in your kitchen at the same time.
Grow your marriage.
__【小题2】__. It’s always a give-and-take, always requires work. It’s as if you planted a garden and came back six months later─you wouldn’t even be able to find it. __【小题3】__.
Beat stress.
My dog, Maggie, is the best anti-stress tool I have. A few minutes petting, scratching or playing with her, and __【小题4】__. Exercise also helps. Just about every day, I’m on the tennis court. It’s a great workout, and if I don’t have that, I don’t cope as well, sleep as well or think as well.
Refocus your anger.
Expressing your anger is just not that good an idea. You say things you don’t mean. __【小题5】__. When you do that, you’re a problem solver.
Don’t medicate(掺入药) with food.
It never, ever works. You’re denying your issue by eating your way through it, instead of saying, “Hey, I’ve got a problem.”

A.You replace the unwanted behavior with something that prevents you from doing it and that doesn’t have unhealthy side effects.
B.I’ll feel easy.
C.If there is a problem, you needn’t deal with it immediately.
D.You have to tend it, feed it, weed it, and deal with the problems.
E. Instead, recognize that anger is usually a symptom of hurt, fear or frustration, and deal with the causes rather than blow up.
F. Relationships are negotiated(协商), and the negotiation never stops.
G. You do something without any good effect on your health during the time when you usually do something harmful to your body.

The benefits of keeping a journal (日志)
If you want to grow, one important thing you should do is keeping a journal. It may seem simple, but it can make a big difference in your life. I have been keeping journals for years. Writing all the lessons I learn and all the ideas I get has become a habit for me.    【小题1】   Here are some benefits you will get by keeping a journal.
◆ It prevents you from losing an idea. Have you ever gotten an idea only to lose it later because you didn’t write it down?   【小题2】   But then I developed the habit of writing down every idea that came into my mind as soon as possible. If I’m away from my computer, I usually write it down on a piece of paper that I bring wherever I go. I will then transfer the idea to the journal in my computer.
◆ It helps you review all the lessons you’ve learned. By reviewing your journal, you can quickly see the lessons you’ve learned and the ideas you’ve gotten.    【小题3】   You can use the ideas to propel (鞭策) yourself forward.
【小题4】   After keeping a journal for years, you can look back at it and see how far you’ve gone. Things that were big problems in the past might seem small today. The raw ideas you had in the past might have been realized today.
◆ It helps you expand your ideas. When you try to come up with a sentence to express an idea, you are thinking actively about it.    【小题5】   In the end, you will expand your ideas.

A.I often experienced that myself.
B.It trains you to express your thoughts.
C.It allows you to see your progress over time.
D.Just use whatever tool you feel comfortable with.
E. Thinking actively helps you connect your idea to another idea.
F. And to be honest, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it.
G. Then you can do whatever necessary to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Leap Year

Leap year is a year that has 366 days instead of the usual 365.It normally occurs every four years, always on an even-numbered year. The extra day is added to our shortest month. That is the second month of the year, which in non-leap years has 28 days, two fewer that any other month.   1.

Leap year is also called the bissextile year.   2.     In our calendar system there is a need for a leap year because the solar year (the time it takes the earth to go around the sun once) is actually slightly more than 365 days long. That extra day—Feb.29 every four years—helps correct the difference between our calendar and the solar calendar.

Leap year was first made part of the calendar by the ancient Roman leader Julius Caesar. His astronomers had calculated the length of the solar year to be 365 days and six hours. So Caesar declared that an extra day be added to the calendar.   3.

Caesar's adjustment, however, was not entirely accurate because his astronomers' year exceeded the true solar year by eleven minutes and fourteen seconds.By 1582, a difference of ten days had developed between the calendar year and the true solar year.To correct this error, Pope Gregory XIII ruled that every fourth year would continue to be a leap year except for century years that could not be divided evenly by 400.By this system, century years such as 1700, 1800, and 1900 were not leap years, but the year 2000 was a leap year.  4.

Persons born on Feb.29 celebrate their growing up a little differently from the rest of us.  5.     But if they go strictly by the calendar, they have only one-fourth as many birthday celebrations as most people.

A.This is done every four years.

B.This is its formal, or scientific title.

C.This may seem complicated, but it works.

D.They acknowledge that they get older each year.

E.The leap year was introduced in the Julian calendar in 46 BC.

F.When you see Feb.29 on a calendar, you know that year is a leap year.

G.In a leap year, the extra day is added to the second month, giving it 29 instead of the usual 28 days
