¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Security¡ªfor the information on your smart phone, as well as for the phone itself¡ªis a hot topic these days. The truth is that you're packing a lot of sensitive information on your phone, and you should keep it safe.

When it comes to physical security, iPhone users would do well to download Find My iPhone, a free app from Apple that allows you to visit a website and see your (lost, stolen or misplaced) phone on the map.You can then sound an alarm, send a message that will pop up on its screen, lock the phone or erase all your data.

Android does not have an exact equivalent(µÈ¼ÛÎï), but there are plenty of alternatives. A free app called Lookout offers the findmyphone feature. The paid version allows you to wipe the data from your phone remotely.

Then there is your coffee shop's WiFi network.Anyone with minimal technical expert skill can snoop on(¿úÊÓ) people using shared wireless networks, harvesting passwords and other personal data. Lookout will caution you when you've logged on to an insecure network, but cannot protect you once you're there.

In order to protect yourself on such networks, you can use a virtual private network, or VPN. This turns all your activity into nonsense to anyone trying to read along with you from across Starbucks. It also keeps websites from tracking you and, if you're travelling, allows you to get access to sites that may be blocked in other countries.

If you have an iPhone, the simplest VPN app is probably Hotspot Shield, whose distinguishing feature is said to be that it automatically kicks in each time you start browsing (ä¯ÀÀ), as opposed to other VPN apps that require you to start them up manually(ÊÖ¶¯µØ)£®This matters, because even if you decide you want a VPN app, you want to spend approximately zero time thinking about it. For the most part, that was true of Hotspot Shield, though occasionally it took a while to connect or temporarily lost connection without warning. I found myself having to turn the app on and off sometimes, which involved setting my phone constantly.

If even reading about the settings on your phone drive you crazy, then it is probably best to stay away from a VPN app. But if you're the type who can't resist checking your bank balance from your corner bar, the hassle(Âé·³) may be preferable to the risk.

¡¾1¡¿Which of the following can warn you against the insecure network?

A. Android. B. VPN.

C. Lookout. D. Find My iPhone.

¡¾2¡¿By using VPN, users can ________£®

A. find their lost phones on the Internet

B. remove all the data from the phone remotely

C. check the bank balance now and then

D. save their browsing from being tracked

¡¾3¡¿The underlined word ¡°that¡± in Para.6 refers to the fact that ________.

A. a VPN app kicks in automatically

B. the users start VPN apps manually

C. the app takes a while to connect

D. users spend no time thinking about it

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿When looking at Western Europe, we don¡¯t usually think about poverty¡ªbut in fact, some people in modern-day Britain are so hard up that they can¡¯t afford to buy food.

Back in 2008, the financial crisis caused a lot of unemployment. Then there were the cuts to the welfare system in 2013 which added to the problem¡ªand many British people fell into debt. It¡¯s estimated that 500,000 people in the UK have turned to food banks, just to get by.

Steph Hagen, who works in a Nottingham food bank, says£º¡°People do not go to a food bank because it's an open door. It¡¯s a case where they go to it because they need to. With our food bank¡ªwe are an independent one, and we have limited stocks¡ªeveryone who comes through our door has no income.¡±

There are checks to make sure nobody is abusing the system. If a doctor or a social worker thinks someone needs to use a food bank¡ªeven for a short time¡ªthey can give them vouchers(ƾ֤). Then the people in need take them along to the food bank and they get handouts for three days.

Churches and individual donors provide most of the food in the banks. But some businesses might help out too.

And what sort of food is offered in food banks? Hagen says£º¡°Basically, we¡¯ve got porridge. We do occasionally get fresh produce but it¡¯s very rare, especially in the winter months. It¡¯s like tinned fruit, tinned ready meals. We have to give out¡®no-cooking¡¯food parcels because people can¡¯t afford the gas and electricity¡±.

Community spirit has a lot to do with food banks. Volunteers say they are a great meeting place for people who are lonely and depressed. And when facing a crisis, some beneficiaries might need to feed not only their belly¡ªbut also their soul.

¡¾1¡¿According to the text, the food bank is a place ________.

A£®which is funded by the government

B£®where people can get food randomly

C£®which helps poor people live through crisis

D£®where there is enough food supplies

¡¾2¡¿What does the underlined word¡°them¡±in Paragraph 4 refer to?

A£®Systems£® B£®Doctors£®

C£®Social workers£® D£®Vouchers£®

¡¾3¡¿Why do food banks mainly offer¡°no-cooking¡±food?

A£®Poor people have no money for gas and electricity.

B£®The volunteers hate to supply cooked food.

C£®Food banks can¡¯t afford cooked food.

D£®This kind of food is easy to store.

¡¾4¡¿What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A£®Community spirit can cure those who are depressed.

B£®Food banks benefit poor people mind and body.

C£®People can have great fun in food banks.

D£®Volunteers tend to feel lonely and depressed in food banks.

Scientists are trying to make the deserts into good land again. They want to bring water to the deserts so that people can live and grow food there. They are learning a lot about the deserts, but more and more of the earth is becoming deserts all the time.Scientists may not be able to change the desert in time.

Why is more and more land becoming deserts?Scientists think that people make deserts.People are doing bad things to the earth. For example, scientists tell the people how important plants are for stopping land becoming desert, but people don¡¯t pay enough attention to the green plants.

Some places on the earth don¡¯t get much rain. But they still don¡¯t become deserts. This is because some green plants are growing there.Small green plants and grass are very important to dry places.Plants don¡¯t let the sun make the earth even drier.Plants don¡¯t let the wind blow the soil away. When a bit of rain falls, the plants hold the water.Without plants, the land can become desert more easily. The present fact is that green plants on the earth are fewer and fewer. If there were no green plants on the earth, the whole earth would become desert.

¡¾1¡¿Deserts .

A.never have any plants or animals in them before

B.can all be turned into good land soon

C.have little water or plants

D.make the earth drier

¡¾2¡¿Small green plants are very important to dry places because .

A.they don¡¯t let the sun make the earth into good land

B.they don¡¯t let the wind blow soil away

C.they are green

D.they have leaves

¡¾3¡¿After reading this,we learn that .

A.plants can keep dry land from becoming deserts

B.it is good to get rid of the grass in the deserts

C.all places without much rain will become deserts

D.it is better for the dry land to grow grass than to grow trees
