根据下文 “_ 37_ this time I was not happy.” We couldn't have had worse news. How beautiful she sings! I have never heard a better voice.
小题3:A。 因此,此处所填的形容词应与 “when a young man wants respect not charity” 所表达的意思相同。 这也与下文中的 “I was filled with pride” 相吻合。
just:刚刚、恰好;ever:曾经;thus:因此。
小题7:A。
根据下文 “We paid our debts.But before harvest,cash was short.”和文章的最后一句“a decent person who kept his word and respect at himself”可知答案为honest。
小题11:A. 由首句 “One summer day my father sent me to buy wire for our farm”可知,我去商店买电线,名词purchases意思为“购买之物”,这里指wire。
小题13:A. 由下一句“But Buck’s face didn’t change.” give sb a  look:看某人一眼;give sb a stare:瞪某人一眼;response反应;与make搭配,不与give搭配。comment:评价,做评论是make a comment,不是give a comment。
point to: 指向。reply to:回答。
in a neighborly way: 一种友好的方式。in a sense:在某种意义上。to a degree: 达到某种程度。in the mood for (doing)sth / to do sth:有做某事的想法。
My family had earned是定语从句修饰先行词name,省去了关系代词that或which.。 earn the good name表示蠃得名声。

In a moment of personal crisis, how much help can you expect from a New York taxi driver? I began studying this question and answers are interesting.
One morning, I got into three different taxis and announced,“Well,it's my first day back in New York in seven years.I've been in prison.”Not a single driver replied,so I tried again.“Yeah,I shot a man in Reno.”I explained, hoping the driver would ask me why, but nobody asked. The only response came from a Ghanaian driver,“Reno? That is in Nevada?”
Taxi drivers were uniform sympathetic when I said I'd just been fired.“This is America,”a Haitian driver said.“One door is closed.Another is open.”He argued against my plan to burn down my boss' s house.A Pakistani driver even turned down a chance to profit from my loss of hope;he refused to take me to the middle of the George Washington Bridge—a $20 trip.“Why do you want to go there? Go home and relax.Don't worry.Take a new job.”
One very hot weekday in July, while wearing a red ski mask and holding a stuffed pillowcase with the word “BANK” on it, I tried calling a taxi five times outside different banks. The driver picked me up every time.My ride with a Haitian driver was typical of the superb assistance I received.
“Let's go across the park,” I said.“I just robbed the bank there.I got $25,000.”
“$25,000?” he asked.
“Yeah, you think it was wrong to take it?”
“No, man.I work 8 hours and I don't make almost $70.If I can do that,I will do it too.”
As we approached 86th and Lexington, I pointed to the Chemical Bank.
“Hey,there is another bank,”I said,“Could you wait here a minute while I go inside?”
“No,I can't wait.Pay me now.” His unwillingness may have had something to do with money—taxi drivers think the rate for waiting time is too low—but I think he wanted me to learn that even a bank robber can't expect unconditional support.

I once had a friend that was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and the news that he might only live up to six months was a great shock to him, his family, and his friends. However, in spite of the serious illness, he was initially determined to look into all available treatments that might cure or extend his life. I think that when you find yourself in such situations, you tend to look up every possible way for hope of saving your life.
As months went on and his health grew worse, I noticed an unexpected change in attitude that came over him. He had also been a happy person with a cheerful personality, but rather than give in to discouragement and self-pity, he took comfort in God and humanity. His talks focused on others rather than himself, and he spoke of the afterlife as something he was prepared for, believing that his concerned ancestors, including his mother and father, were there waiting for him.
During the last few months, weeks, and days of his life, he was kindly cared for by family, friends, his loving wife, who looked after both his physical and emotional needs, and workers from a local hospice (安养院) came to the home to regulate his medication and provide any other needed support. He didn't complain about his fate, and he willingly allowed others to serve him.
Indeed, one might think why God allows death and suffering in our world, but for me, such experiences taught me to value family more and kindness for others. You often can't learn these important attributes in the lap of luxury, and perhaps, such an experience is the greatest and final gift the illness can give those left behind.

I have been in love with China since 2010.
After one year in Zhejiang University, I got a great       — to work as an assistant manager in a big hotel. The best part of this job was that I was the only      , so I got a good chance to understand Chinese culture and practice my      .
Actually, I have got       I supposed to. I have got valuable experience, devoted friends and the feeling that I am not laowai anymore.
Guests were pleasantly surprised to see me there, because I was an interpreter, trip adviser, and       guide at the same time, which made their life much      . I met people from all over the world, who came to China for the first time,       who knew China better than me.       my Chinese colleagues, who had answers to all the questions about      , I could explain why you should       before you buy, why Chinese don’t let guests       dinner, why it is not common to book a taxi and why it is better to catch       on the street. I also had chances to       the development of China.
The waiters and managers were not only my teachers, but       my friends. If I needed help, they were       to help me. I enjoyed our small conversations       they were kind and educated. I was very proud and happy of the fact that all of them       me and I don’t feel     anymore.
The best part of my job was to see people coming       the hotel. When they recognized me, they       share their adventures, burdens, even thoughts with me. It means the world to me.
I spent there 8 months and it was a period when I was proud to be who I am.

One day, a well-known speaker was invited to give a lecture to an audience of 200. He started his lecture by       a $ 20 bill. He looked around the room, and asked, “Who would like this $20 bill?”      started going up.
He said, “I am going to       this $20 to one of you, but first, let me do this.” He crumpled up (揉皱) the 20-dollar bill. He then asked, “Who       wants it?” Still the hands were       in the air.
“Well”, he replied,“    I do this ?” And he dropped it on the       and started to step on it with his shoes. He picked it up. Now it was crumpled and       .
“Now, who wants it?” Still the hands went into the air.
“My friends, we have all learned a very       lesson. No matter what I did to the       , you still want it because it doesn’t decrease in     . It is still worth $20, with       we can buy what we need.
Many times in our lives, we are     , and trampled underfoot by the decision we      and the circumstances that come our way. We feel     we were worthless. But no matter what has happened or what may happen to us, you will never       your value. Dirty or clean, you are still priceless to those who do love you. The worth of our lives is determined not by       we do or who we know, but by who we are. You are      . Don’t ever forget it.”
If you       this lesson in mind, it will help you to       again when you fall. Each time it makes you grow much stronger.

Life is filled with challenges. As we get older we     realize that those challenges are the very things that     us and make us who we are. It is the same with the challenges that come with    .
When we are faced with a challenge, we usually have two    . We can try to beat it off, or we can decide that the thing     the challenge isn't worth the      and call it quits. Although there are certainly      when calling it quits is the right thing to do, in most     all that is needed is      and communication.
When we are committed to something, it means that no matter how      or how uncomfortable something is, we will always choose to      it and work it through instead of running away from it. Communication is making a      for discussion and talking about how you feel as opposed to just saying what the other person did wrong.     you can say to a friend, "I got my feeling hurt,"      "You hurt my feelings," you are going to be able to solve the problem much faster.
In dealing with the many challenges that friendship will bring to you, try to see them for      they are: small hurdles you need to jump or      on your way through life. Nothing is so big that it is      to get over, and hurt only      to make us stronger. It is all part of growing up, it      to everyone, and some day you will     all of this and say, "Hard as it was, it made me who I am today. And that is a good thing."
