【答案】The revival of rarely used characters promoted by the contest seems ridiculous.Lookingat it in terms of practicability, the contest is reading the public in the wrong direction. The development of a language can not be separated from its usage in reality.Throughout the course of history, outdated characters or words have inevitably been replaced by more modern and innovative versions. For one thing, many other simpler words can express the same meaning, why would people invest time in remembering the strokes(笔划) of such complicated word? For another, the research of ancient Chinese characters should be undertaken by academics, rather than the general public. For a TV programme, using traditional culture to attract audience is a great selling point, but we should be aware that the show has little power to bring those rarely used characters back to life.
