题目内容

1.Where on Earth are you?Navigators (导航员) use lines of latitude and lines of longitude to locate places.Lines of latitude run east and west around Earth.On a map or lobe,these lines appear as running sideways or horizontally.Lines of longitude run north and south around Earth.These lines go up and down or vertically on a map or globe.These lines create an imaginary graph paper on the Earth.They make it possible to find an absolute,or exact,location on Earth.They even allow us to give an absolute location to a place out in the middle of the ocean.
Lines of latitude tell us how far north or south of the Equator we are.Sailors have used primitive navigation tools,like astrolabes,since ancient times.The astrolabe uses the sun and stars to find an approximate location.Using such tools,they have been able to approximate their distance from the equator.Although their instruments may not have been the high quality we have now,they were incredibly accurate (精确) for their time.
Lines of longitude tell us how far east or west of the prime meridian (本初子午线) we are.Sailors constantly looked for new ways to increase their navigation skills.Still,it wasn't until the 18th century that they were able to measure degrees of longitude.They would have been very envious of the technology available to us today.
When we use lines of latitude and longitude together,we can get a very pecise location.If we want to identify the absolute location of a point,we look where the latitude and longitude lines cross nearest to that point.We use the coordinates (坐标) for that point as its address.Many maps today include degrees of latitude and longitude.

16.When talking about colds,maybe some people say it is very common.During the cold winter days,many people will complain the cold winter makes them catch a cold,and what they feel upset are not only the headache,cough but also the runny nose.It is so embarrassing when they forget to take a handkerchief along with them.
Want to stay away from colds?Put on a happy face.
Compared(与…比较) to unhappy people,those who are cheerful and relaxed are less likely to suffer from colds,according to a new study.It's possible that being happy helps the body fight illnesses,say the researchers from New York University.
"It seems that positive(积极的) feelings may reduce (减少)the danger of illness,"said the study's chief researcher Sheldon Cohen.
In an earlier study,Cohen found that people who were cheerful and lively caught coughs and colds less often.People  who showed feelings were also less likely to tell their doctors that they felt ill.
In this study,Cohen has interviewed 193adults every day for two weeks.During the interviews,the people told researchers that they were given colds by doctors and had to stay alone in a room for six days.
The results showed that everyone in the study was equally(相等地) likely to get ill.But for people who said they felt happy during the research period,their illness are less serious and lasted for a shorter time.
Cohen believes that when people experience positive feelings,their body may produce a chemical that helps fight illness.So if you are worried about your health,look on the brighter side more often.

C.People with good feelings became ill more easily.
D.People with positive feelings had less serious illnesses.
30.According to Cohen,which of the following may help fight illness?B
A.Eating.
B.Laughing
C.Crying
D.Sleeping.

10.Given that motivation is so central to our lives, what do we truly understand about how it operates and about its role in our lives? The assumption is that it's driven by a positive, external (外部的)reward.Do this, get that. But the story is much more complex.
One of the most striking aspects of motivation is that it often drives us to achievements that are difficult, challenging and even painflil. You may think that you would be happy to spend all your time sitting on a white-sand beach drinking and that as long as you get to fill your days this way,you would be happy forever. But while a few days of enjoyment might be fun from time to time,I can′t imagine that you would be satisfied by spending your days, weeks, months, years and even your life this way.
Research that examines the differences between meaning and happiness finds that the things which give us a sense of meaning don't necessarily make us happy. Moreover, people who report having meaningful lives are often more interested in doing things for others, while those who focus mostly on doing things for themselves report being only superficially happy,in other words, just externally and apparently delighted. The essential quality of"meaning"has to do with having a sense of being involved in something bigger than the self.
We all know people obtain a great sense of meaning even in the most unpleasant of circumstances. Many volunteers spend portions of their lives working in dangerous,war-tom areas, trying to keep disease and death from innocent civilians or teaching orphans to read.Their pain is real; their sense of doing something truly meaningfiil is substantial(丰富的).They show how our deep-rooted desire to believe that our lives have purpose beyond our lifespan drives us to work extra hard, even to the point of our own personal suffering,in order to gain more meaning.
The point is that these seemingly unusual and irrational (不合理的)motivations get us to do things that are complex, difficult and unpleasant. But they go beyond helping people in need. They motivate us in every aspect of our lives-whether in our personal relationships,in our individual pursuits or in the workplace.
