【答案】Dear Jim,

Knowing that you are interested in Chinese literature. I am more than excited because I am fairly a literature lover myself.

I recommend a well-known Chinese book titled The Ordinary World to you. The book was written by a famous Chinese writer, Lu Yao. It centers on the life and destinies of three families of Sun, Tian and Jin in a village. It pictures the tough process of building up a better and wealthier life during the very beginning of reform and openness in China. Reading the book, you will be greatly a fleeted by the courage and spirit of the main characters. That’s why I make this recommendation.

I am looking forward to your view of this book.

Yours,

Li Hua

【题目】任务型阅读Money Matters
Parents should help their children understand money. So you may start talking about money when your child shows an interest in buying things, candy or toys, for example.
⒈ The basic function of money
Begin explaining the basic function of money by showing how people trade money for goods or services. It is important to show your child how money is traded for the things he wants to have. If he wants to have a toy, give him the money and let him hand the money to the cashier(收银员). When your child grows a bit older and understands the basic function of money, you can start explaining more ways of using money.
⒉ Money lessons
Approach money lessons with openness and honesty. If you must say no to a child's request to spend money, explain, “You have to make a choice between this and that toy.”

Begin at the grocery store. Pick out two similar brands of a product –a name-brand butter and a generic(无商标产品), for example. You can show your child how to make choices between different brands of a product so that you can save money. If he chooses the cheaper brand, allow him to make another purchase with the money saved. Later, you may explain how more expensive choice leaves less money for other purchases.
A. Wise decision
B. The value of money
C. Permit the child to choose between them.
D. Tell your child why he can –or cannot –have certain things.
E. The best time to teach a child anything about money is when he shows an interest.
F. Talk about how the money bought the thing after you leave the toy store.
G. Ask yourself what things that cost money are most important to you.

【题目】Life doesn’t always turn out the way we’d like. When situations take an unfavorable turn, we become upset, frustrated, or angry. When others don’t agree with us, or act in a manner we find disturbing, anger is a typical response. With the exception of a few extreme circumstances an angry reaction rarely improves the situation or helps us change our mind. Thoughtful consideration of what feelings and reaction are most helpful actually restores our real power, so consider the following alternatives to anger.

Compassion, consisting of both understanding and empathy, can be a perfect solution to anger. Each person has a right to live life according to their beliefs, dreams, needs, etc. If someone is acting improperly or not living up to our ideals, we need to remove the “shoulds” and remind ourselves that it is a necessary part of their life’s journey. Choosing this alternative response softens one’s heart and prevents anger from arising.

Humor is another powerful tool for lessening anger. We take life and personal offense far too seriously. After all, their behavior is a reflection of their internal environment and has nothing at all to do with us and it is in reality relatively unimportant. Humor puts any serious situation into its proper places. It acts as a protective barrier to emotional pain as we recognize that what is happening has nothing at all to do with us.

So when others behave badly, forgive them for their bad behaviors rather than judge them in your heart. When life hands us the exact opposite of what we requested, make light of it, After all, this life is only temporary so why get so bent out of shape when it isn’t in line with your ideals? Rain on your wedding day? Break oat the umbrellas and boots and dance in the puddles!

1What can we infer from the first paragraph?

B. All the people get annoyed easily.

C. Anger often does no good to the situation.

2How should we respond to others’ misbehavior according to the second paragraph?

A. Criticize it sharply. B. Complain about it.

3What does the underlined phrase mean in the last paragraph?

A. Dull. B. Angry.

C. Delighted. D. Gifted.

4What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Alternative Responses to Anger.

B. The Bad Effects of Anger.

C. The Causes of Frequent Anger.
