Make sure the doors are closed behind you when you come into the building and never leave your room unlocked, even when you are in it. There's always a chance that someone might sneak in while you are unaware. Always try to remember to close doors behind you to ensure your safety. 2. Don't lose your keys. Even if you do everything you can to keep the doors locked, criminals might still be able to come into your house with a key. Always know where your keys are to prevent this. Never put them down in a public place or give them to friends. Also, before you bring your car into the repair shop, take off the house keys. 3. When it comes to safety, standing up for yourself is important. If you aren't getting all the security features you want, don't be afraid to ask. If your lighting situation is less than ideal, discuss this with your supervisor or landlord. Talk to the campus security organization if you think a security phone near your dorm is a good idea. Request that the building employ someone to monitor those entering and leaving the building. You should feel safe where you reside (居住于), so stand up for your rights. 4. Be careful. You still might find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. Check your peephole (窥视孔) before letting anyone in. Whenever you witness something around your building that makes you uncomfortable or suspicious just dial 911. It is a good idea to always walk with a friend instead of alone. Become familiar with people who live in the building, so you can keep track of anyone that is a stranger. | ||||

1. Discover your company's/department's corporate culture to see if you're a fit.A job contains a range of personalities, lifestyles and interests. The corporate culture is where all of these things mesh together to create a set of norms and values that give identity to your company. For example, everyone at your job may wear shorts but you like to wear pants. No one at your job smokes but you do,or all your coworkers like to get together and gossip but, you'd prefer to be alone. Not "fitting in" may affect your advancement. 2. People like to be around people that they can relate to.Besides the home, work is the second place where you'll spend the majority of your time.So it's essential to find similar interests that you and your co-workers share as to pass your time there more smoothly. For example, did you and any of your co-workers graduate from the same school?Do you and any of your co-workers have mutual friends?Or do your children attend the same school? 3. You take on every project that's handed to you.You rush to finish your work and offer to assist everyone else's with theirs. You shorten your lunch or skip it all together to respond to phone calls and emails with the hope that your boss will notice.HE WON'T!WORK SMART!Not hard.Take on only those things that will help to show your talents and your added value to the company. 4. You do it all the time. You rant and rave about your boss' incompetence and about how much of a fool he is.How much smarter you are and,how you can do his job 100 times better than he can BLINDFOLDED.OK,that may be true but, trying to outshine him will not get you that promotion. So join forces and help your boss look good by assisting him with his projects and by helping him to become more efficient and organized. 5. Know the people that have seniority in your company and work to create an alliance.Be aware though, that the key players may not be the CEO,the Director of Operations or the Senior Executive. They may take the form of receptionist, doorkeeper or administrative assistant or someone who's been with the company for years. |
