Say No to Copying Homework

Nowadays, copying others¡¯ homework is quite common in some schools. There are two main reasons for this.

Firstly, some students spend too much time playing so that they have no time for homework. Another reason is that some don¡¯t listen to their teachers attentively in the class so they can¡¯t do their homework by themselves. In order to hand it in, they have no choice but to copy.

As we all know, homework plays an important part in our studies. It is used to check our study and help us review our lessons. If we hand in the homework copied from others, our teachers will not know what we haven¡¯t understood.

So, it¡¯s time that we said no to copying homework. Only by doing homework on our own can we really make progress in our studies.

During the 19th century, women¡¯s education was not considered important in the United States. Supporters of advanced education for women faced many problems. States did require each town to provide a school for children, but teachers were often poorly prepared. Most young women were not able to continue on with their education in private schools. If they did, they often were not taught much except the French language, how to sew (·ìÖÆ) clothing, and music.

Mary Lyon felt that women¡¯s education was extremely important. Through her lifelong work for education she became the most famous woman in the 19th century America. She believed that women were teachers both at home and in the classroom. And she believed that efforts to better educate young women also served God. If women were better educated, she felt, they could teach in local schools throughout the United States and in foreign countries.

In 1837, Mary Lyon opened Mount Holyoke Seminary for Women. Only four teachers and the first class of eighty young women lived and studied in the building when the school opened. But Mary knew the importance of what had been established (½¨Á¢) ¡ª the first independent school for the higher education of women. The school continued to grow. In 1893, under a state law, Mount Holyoke Female Seminary became a college. Mount Holyoke College was the first college to offer women the same education as was offered to men.

People who have studied Mary Lyon say she was not fighting a battle (Õ½Õù) of equality between men and women, yet she knew she wanted more for women. Her efforts led to the spread of higher education for women in the United States. Historians say she was the strongest influence on the education of American young people during the middle of the 19th century.

After a year of being prepared, Laura Dekker can¡¯t wait to set sail .Last August ,the Dutch government decided that Laura Dekker was too young to take on the challenge of sailing around the world alone. But after a year of preparing herself , Laura has been allowed to sail.

¡±I was so happy I almost jump into the water,¡± Laura said , after learning of the court¡¯s judgement. She was born on a yacht(ÓÎͧ) in the South Pacific ,and now lives with her father in a boat. And she took her first aid course to learn several survival skills, like how to put out fires on the boat, take care of her own injuries and deal with lack of sleep. She also planned a safer course --- adding alternate routes(±¸Ó÷¾¶) to avoid pirate(º£µÁ) attacks, and planning a course that would have her on dry land as she moved from port to port across the world.

Laura is using a larger and more safer boat. If she finished successfully in less than two years, she will take the title from current record-holder Jessica Watson, of Australia, who was 16 when she completed the journey.
