We use the Internet for many things: business, shopping, writing letters, talking to people, finding information and so on. In recent years, a new kind of English has grown on the Internet. There’s no real word for it yet, so we’ll call it e-talk. People don’t like typing too much. To save time, they turn phrases into a few letters (called acronyms). Acronyms are often used in chat rooms(聊天室). Some of them are:
BTW(by the way); BRB(be right back); LOL(laughing out loud); IMO(in my opinion)
People also use many abbreviations. They are shortened forms of words. Some common abbreviations are:
info(information); puter(computer); pic(picture); sec(second)
We ususally don’t see people when we communicate on the Internet, so people have new ways to show feelings. Most people use their keyboards to draw “feelings”, such as:
:-) (happy); ;-)(joking); :-((sad); :-O(surprised)
These days, many forums(论坛)have picture feelings. For example:
(happy) (sad) (angry) (cool)
There are even whole new words, like ”newbie’s” (someone who is new on a chat board or forum). When you write something bad about someone else, it’s called “flaming” the person.
It takes time for people to get used to e-talk. Also, different groups on the Net have their own special ways of communicating. Newbie’s sometimes have to ask other people what they mean. As the Internet grows, e-talk will continue to grow and change.

Everyone feels happiness, surprise, fear, sadness and anger at some time—these are the basic emotions. It’s normal to have these feelings sometimes! There are over 600 words in English to describe them and we use the muscles(肌肉) in our faces to express them.
2. |
Emotions enable us to react to situations—for example, anger will set your heart racing, and feeling happy will make you smile. One of the key areas of your brain that deals with showing, recognizing, and controlling the body’s reaction to emotions is known as the limbic system (中枢边缘系统).
3. |
When remembering an emotional event, you recall not only what happened, but also how you felt. Both sorts of memory can be caused by something you heard, saw and even smelt, at the time. Scientists think that you store early emotional memories, even if you can’t remember what actually happened.
4. |
Taking the time to recognize, understand, and express how we feel is the right thing to do. When we are able to express our emotions properly, we think hand act in a better way. We have better relationships with our parents, family and friends. We understand ourselves, and others understand us. And it feels so good!
5. |
The way we feel affects our thoughts and actions, and it is impossible to separate our feelings from the things we think and do! Therefore, it is important to be aware of our feeling and to respond to them in the right way. Feelings like anger and fear are not our enemies! We should not keep them deep inside. Instead, we should understand them and direct them in the proper way.
Have you ever wondered why you sometimes take an almost immediate liking to a person you have just met? We often get the first impression of a people based on the color of a person’s skin or the manner in which he or she dressed. Meaning is conveyed not only by words or verbal languages but also by nonverbal communication systems, such as body behaviors.
Nonverbal communication is important because we use the actions of others to learn about their affective emotional states .Our emotions are reflected in our posture, face, and eyes—be it fear, joy, anger, or sadness—so we can express them without ever saying a word .For this reason, most of us rely heavily on what we learn through our eyes.
Nonverbal communication is significant in human interaction because it is usually responsible for the first impressions. More importantly, those first messages usually influence the perception(感知) of everything else that follows. Even how we select friends and sexual partners is grounded in first impressions with nonverbal communication.
Nonverbal communication is important because it is culture-related. It is based on different beliefs, religions, values and customs in different cultures. When, where, how, and to whom people display his or her specific nonverbal behaviors is greatly affected by culture and context. Culture determines what the appropriate nonverbal behavior is. For example, feelings of friendship exist everywhere but their expression varies. It may be appropriate in some countries for man to embrace each other and for women to hold hands; in other countries these displays of affection may be shocking. Each culture has its own specific interpretation on nonverbal communication. What is acceptable in one culture may be completely unacceptable in another. One culture may determine that snapping fingers to call a waiter is acceptable; another may consider this gesture rude.
