More than 40 US missiles (导弹) exploded in Baghdad as dawn broke over the Iraqi capital on March 20. US President George W. Bush began his war against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein without an approval from the United Nations Security Council (联合国安理会).

The attack came less than two hours after Bush's deadline for Saddam to leave his country had passed.

Following the air strikes, Iraq fired missiles into Kuwait. The US began its ground war the same day. On Friday, a US helicopter crashed in Kuwait and all 16 American and British soldiers on board were killed.

About 2.50 000 US hoops are stationed(驻扎) around Iraq. There are also troops from other countries, including Britain and Australia, fighting alongside the American soldiers. Their force is much bigger than that of the Iraqi military.

The US soldiers have all been given vaccinations(接种疫苗) in an attempt to protect them from possible biological weapons that may spread deadly germs(细菌). They also have gas masks(防毒面具) in case Saddam orders his soldiers to use chemical weapons.

Many countries including China, Russia, Germany and France have tried to solve the conflict through peaceful means. They want to avoid loss of life and have called for an end to this US-led war.

China is demanding military action against Iraq stop immediately. Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said it wards the US to seek a peaceful political solution(解决).

Kong said the attack on Iraq was carried out despite opposition from most governments and people across the world. Plus, he said, the US bypassed the UN Security Council and broke the basic international law.

Since the war broke out, many more anti-war protests have taken place in the US, Britain and elsewhere.

Back in 1991, the US led its fist war against Iraq after it invaded(侵略) Kuwait. Iraq was driven out, but Saddam remained in power. And the US Government has regarded him as a threat ever since.

There are many forms of fighting bare-fisted (赤手空拳的).Both wrestling and boxing were probably started in ancient Greece and Rome although modern boxing is believed to have started in England

Other fighting skills were developed for defense against stronger enemies. One story goes that long ago some people of South India practiced a form of fighting that required more skill than strength. They made use of strength and the carelessmovements of the enemies to defeat them. In this way an expert with nothing in hand could easily defeat several enemies with spears in hand.

It is said that this kind of fighting skill was first introduced to Shaolin Temple in Henan Province in China. After studying and copying the fighting movements of certain animals, these people in the temple made great improvement on the Indians’ skill. In each country some changes were made. As a resultthere are now lots of different fighting skills and techniques like the Chinese Taiji Quanthe Japanese Judo(柔道)and many others.

Todaythe system of fighting bare—fisted in Asia has spread out over the world. Fortunately, only a few peoplelike members of the police force and the armyuse this skill to fight their enemies when necessary. Most of these skills are now sports and people do themjust for fun.

Two young Chinese tigers set off on a 7000-mile journey to South Africa where animal experts will teach them how to hunt. The pair of South China tigers named Cathay and Hope will travel from an overcrowded field at Shanghai Zoo to a 1235-acre reserve(保护区)in South Africa.“There's room for them to move there. But the goal is to bring them back to China, where they have lived for millions of years,”Li Quan, founder of the Save China's Tigers Foundation, told reporters while the animals passed through Hong Kong airport. Quan said there were experts in South Africa with experience in teaching big cats born in imprisonment how to survive in the wild.

Big cats would instinctively(本能地)hunt food but needed to be taught how to kill it. The Chinese government says fewer than 30 South China tigers survive in the wild and a further 60 live in zoos. Tigers, which are found only in Asia, are disappearing because of the destruction of their natural surroundings and because of demand for products such as tiger bones, believed in parts of Asia to cure some serious diseases. The foundation hopes to transport another five to seven young tigers to South Africa over the next five years and then introduce them and any young tiger born there into a specially created re-serve in southern China from 2008.

(1) The Chinese tigers sent to South Africa will ________.

[ ]

A.teach other animals how to hunt

A.Because people are destroying their living conditions as well as killing them for medicine use.

B.Because they only live in crowded zoos.

c.Because there are only a few of them in the wild.

D.Because there is little food for them in China.

(3) What will be the result of the tigers sent to Africa at last?

[ ]

A.They will live in Africa forever.

B.They will come back to the zoos.

C.They will be introduced to China to do research in the wild.

D.All of them, including their young, will return to China to live in a reserve.

[ ]

A.there are reserves there

B.there is plenty of food for the tigers to hunt there

C.there are experienced experts there

D.the Chinese specially created reserve hasn't been completed
