6.Life can be so wonderful,full of adventure and joy.It can also be full of challenges,setbacks and heartbreaks.Whatever our circumstances(境况),we generally still have dreams,hopes and desires-that little something more we want for ourselves and our loved ones.Yet knowing we can have more can also create a problem,because when we go to change the way we do things,up come the old patterns and pitfalls(陷阱) that stopped us from seeking what we wanted in the first place.
This tension(矛盾) between what we feel we can have and what we're seemingly able to have is the niggling(烦人的) suffering,the anxiety we feel.This is where we usually think it's easier to just give up.But we're never meant to let go of the part of us that knows we can have more.The intelligence behind that knowing is us-the real us.It's the part that believes in life and its possibilities.If you drop that,you begin to feel a little"dead"inside because you're dropping"you".
So,if we have this capability but somehow life seems to keep us stuck, how do we break these patterns?
Decide on a new course and make one decision at a time.This is good advice for a new adventure or just getting through today's challenges.
While,deep down,we know we can do it,our mind-or the minds of those close to us-usually says we can't.That isn't a reason to stop,it's just the mind,that little man or woman on your shoulder,trying to talk you out of something again.It has done it many times before.It's all about starting simple and doing it now.
Decide and act before overthinking.When you do this you may feel a little,or large,release from the jail of your mind and you'll be on your way.
27.It can be inferred from the first two paragraphs that we shouldC.
A.slow down and live a simple life
B.be careful when we choose to change
C.stick to our dreams under any circumstances
D.be satisfied with what we already have
28.What is the key to breaking the old patterns?B
A.To focus on every detail.
B.To decide and take immediate action.
C.To listen to those close to us.
D.To think twice before we act.
29.Which of the following best explains the underlined part in the last paragraph?C
A.Escape from your punishment.
B.Realization of your dreams.
C.Freedom from your tension.
D.Reduction(减少) of your expectations.
30.What does the author intend to tell us?A
A.It's easier than we think to get what we want.
B.It's important to learn to accept sufferings in life.
C.It's impractical to change our way of thinking.
D.It's harder than we expect to follow a new course.

Whatever our circumstances,we generally still have dreams,hopes and desires"可知,不管在什么情况下,我们仍然有梦想和希望,以及第二段最后一句话"If you drop that,you begin to feel a little‘dead'inside because you're dropping‘you'."如果你放弃了,你的内在就会变得没有生机,因为你放下你"自己".由此可知,我们无论在什么情况下,都要坚持自己的梦想.所以本题选择C.
28.B 细节理解题.根据倒数第三段第一句Decide on a new course and make one decision at a time.可以知道为了打破旧格局,需要决定一个新目标并且立刻做出决定.故选B
29.C 句意理解题.根据划线句子可知其本意是逃出你内心的牢笼.结合上文中Decide and act before overthinking在过多思考之前快速决定和行动可以推测这个划线句子是指要从过多考虑的焦虑中解放自己.故选C
30.A 推理断题.从全文来看,作者主要是想要强调果断的行动而不是空想来实现自己的梦想和欲望,故选A.

6.On January 31,1978,three young boys were skating on the ice-covered playing field of the Montvale Memorial Elementary School in Montvale,New Jersey.Eddie Hargrove, his brother Michael, and their friend John Cummings watched as a flying object flew nearer. It was square with rounded corners and it had a yellow light at each corner and a light underneath.
The three boys quickly realized that they were seeing something strange. They became frightened an d ran to the dugout(休息室) by the field.By then, the object had disappeared. Before they could discuss what had happened, they noticed what looked like a man in a yellow jogging suit across the road from the field.Michael thought it was a neighbor who often jogged in the evening.
"Mr.Johnson,"Michael called to the man,"did you see that UFO?"
Immediately the man turned toward the boys, and Michael's tongue was frozen.Just then, ten other creatures, all in yellow jogging suits, joined him. Each one was bald(秃头) and had large, dark, square places where his eyes should have been; their skin was light yellow.
"Have you heard of Hitler's army?"John later said."You know how they walked kind of stiff(僵硬地),with their arms straight?Well, that's…how they looked."
Some of them were walking back and forth, while others headed down a nearby road. Finally they walked through the back wall of a building and disappeared completely. Now everything was normal again-almost.
Could they have been joggers?Officer Pelsang of the Montvale Police Department said he had never seen more than two people jogging together in Montvale and never after dark.
Three UFO investigators decided to study the case. The three men discovered that the Department of Public Works (DPW) was opposite the school's playing field and near where the boys first saw the yellow-suited aliens and that the DPW workers wore yellow uniforms in bad weather. However,Lewis Bradley of the DPW stated that all workers had gone home at 4:30 p.m.on the day in question and that none were wearing yellow uniforms that day.
Did the boys see a UFO?Officer Pelsang said,"Twelve-year old boys don't call the police unless they're really upset about something."However,no matter what the investigators wanted to believe, they could not prove that anything had happened. As they wrote in their final report,"The story is interesting but, alas, the amount of value from a case of this kind…is doubtful."

17.People unhappy with the rich:Poll (民意调查)
There is growing dissatisfaction toward rich people, according to a new online poll.
The poll by China Daily in collaboration with Sina.com has highlighted the apparent discontent over the country's widening income gap.
Nearly 8,000people filled in online questionnaires last week,and when asked to use three words to describe society's rich,the top responses were"extravagant","greedy"and"corrupt".
About 57percent of those polled said that"extravagant"was the best word to describe the rich,followed closely by"greedy".
Ironically,in spite of their dissatisfaction,93percent of those polled wished they could be rich too,and that richer people should be"socially responsible".
Around 33percent of respondents also praised rich people for being"smart".
Nearly 90percent of respondents agreed that most people in society,including themselves,were willing to speak up for the poor but were unwilling to take action and actually do something for them.
The survey comes on the heels of a heated debate over comments made by renowned economist Mao Yushi, who said he was"speaking for the rich and working for the poor".
A report released by the Asian Development Bank last Wednesday revealed that China's Gini coefficient(基尼系数)-an indicator of the wealth divide-rose from 0.407in 1993to 0.473in 2004.
An earlier CASS report said that the richest 10percent of Chinese families now own more than 40percent of all private assets,while the poorest 10percent share less than 2percent of the total wealth.
The country's income disparity(悬殊) is close to that of Latin America, the report which came out in January, said.

1.Emily and her boyfriend had just had a fight.She felt alone and hopeless.Then she went into the kitchen and grabbed what she needed before going back up to her room quietly.She switched on the TV and started eating…and eating…for hours,until it was all gone.
What Emily didn't know at the time was that she was suffering from an illness called binge-eating disorder(BED)(暴饮暴食).
For years,Emily didn't tell anyone what she was doing.She felt ashamed,alone,and out of control.Why don't famous people confess (承认) to BED,as they do to anorexia?It's simple:There's a stigma(污名)involved."Overeating is seen as very bad,but dieting to be skinny is seen as positive and even associated with determination,"says Charles Sophy,a doctor in Beverly Hills,California.
"Some parents or friends may look at a teen with BED and think,'Oh,a good diet and some will-power will do the trick.'But that's not true,"says Dr.Ovidio Bermudez,a baby doctor at the Eating Recovery Center in Denver."Eating disorders are real physical and mental health issues; it's not about willpower."The focus in treating BED shouldn't be on weight,because as with all eating disorders,the behaviors with food are a symptom of something deeper.
Like most other diseases,genetics may play a big part in who gets BED and who doesn't.If you have a close relative with an eating disorder,that means you're more likely to develop an eating disorder of your own.
Besides,many people with BED have tried at some point or another to control it by going on a diet,but paying more attention to food doesn't help.And it might even make things worse,like it did for Carla,who's 15now and is recovering from BED."My parents would always tease me about my weight,so when I was 14,I went on a very restrictive diet,"she says.When you can't have something,you only want it more,so every time Carla would have a bite of something that wasn't allowed on her strict diet.She would quickly lose control and binge (狂欢).
28.What does the underlined word"anorexia"in Paragraph 3mean?C
A.Eating too much.
B.Eating junk food.
C.Loss of the wish to eat.
D.Always eating in a hurry.
29.According to Dr.Ovidio Bermudez,people with BEDD.
A.just need a lot of willpower
B.can recover with a good diet
C.can recover with the help of others
D.need to deal with their health problems
30.What can we learn from Carla's story?C
A.BED is an incurable disease.
B.BED has something to do with genes.
C.Going on a diet won't help BED patients.
D.BED patients should pay attention to their food.
15.Three packs of cigarettes were lying there on the pavement.I went down from  Shubentsov's office doorstep,picked them up and(41)A them.Later,in a bar,when I opened the first pack,I found-to my(42)B-twenty cigarettes were there.
I'm still at the bar,telephone in one hand and the cigarettes in the other.I'm dialing Shubentsov,who told me to(43)A the moment I felt the(44)C to smoke.I feel it,feel it even (45)B than I felt Shubentsov's healing energy.Shubentsov is known around the world for (46)C smokers of their nasty habit,using a(47)D method.He sent his healing energy from his fingertips,he tells me-something he(48)C from another man in Russia."I help you for free,"he told me in his muddy accent."Just call me(49)A."
I went to see Shubentsov.I think it's time to stop (50)B I'm getting old and I can't do this by myself.I should quit,but like a lot of you(51)C with the same habit,I really don't want to.
Smoking has been very(52)D to me.Cigarettes have never let me down,never (53)Bme on lonely,desperate nights.Smoking clears my head,helps me think.Smoking helps me celebrate victories,(54)A losses,comfort the comfortless.It also chases away the mosquitoes.
I will quit.Soon.My body and my mind are demanding that,daily.
I claim to smoke for pleasure,but I realize that slowly I'm losing control of this close,special friend.I(55)A that.I realize it's not just a"habit".I'm(56)D.
So I attempt to give up again,at Shubentsov's place this time.I've tried all the other quitting techniques(57)D.Anytime the desire to smoke(58)C me,he said,just ring him up immediately and he'll help.The funny thing is,I realize that I'm phoning him because if I call,I'll have done my part.Besides,I know that at 9:30on Friday nights,I'll hear the voice of the(59)B.I do."The office is open from ten to four.Call me back then.It does not take messages."
I put the phone down and I can honestly say I'm(60)C.
You see,it's not Shubentsov's fault or anyone else's fault that I'm still smoking.It's mine.
Now if you'll excuse me,I'm going to smoke this cigarette.Whether I'll really enjoy it,though,is another story.
