The need for social distancing has reached the dining table with the National Health Commission announcing on Sunday that it will insist on diners being served meals in separate dishes in restaurants to better protect public health.

Separate dishes for everyone is not something new for China;the earliest records show people having their meals from separate dishes.Even during big feasts,people had a table to themselves. And there is nothing to suggest this practice was because of an epidemic(流行病)。Instead,this helped personalize the menu for everyone and avoid the wasting of food.

How we eat is,of course,just one way to control the spread of an epidemic.Some of these good habits should continue after the epidemic ends to prevent another one from breaking out in the future.

【答案】The two pictures mirror different ways of dinning for Chinese people in different eras. Dinning separately, an effective way of preventing diseases is advocated by NHC to meet the need for social distancing.

From my perspective, the benefits of traditional dinning method can't be denied, such as avoiding food waste, developing good individual sanitary habits. In response to the outbreak of Covid-19, we Chinese may as well dine separately, which in turn contributes to the contain of spread of some diseases. Meanwhile, we don't need to be surprised at the dinning method, for it was our traditional culture. Only in this way can we get back to our civilization.

Despite the strengths of the traditional dinning method, modern dinning method is accepted during family reunions, which can promote communication and strengthen bonds. However, in the face of current serious situation, keeping social distance is a must.
