13.You have two eyes and they are set close together on the front of your face.Have you wondered why?The reasons are simple and important to the way you see the rest of your world.
Your eyes are like two small cameras.A camera catches an image of an object and records it on film.Similarly, when you look at something, each eye takes in what it sees and sends this image to the back of the eyeball.Because your eyes are set close together, they view the world from about the same height but from slightly different angles.Working as a team, the eyes send the images to your brain, which puts them together into a single, centered image.
Seeing in stereo means seeing with two eyes working together, which is called stereoscopic sight. This allows you to view the world in three dimensions,or 3-D.Seeing depth helps you to judge the distance between you and the objects you see and to adjust to the changing angle at which you see something as you move closer to or farther away from it.If images are coming from only one eye, however, only two of these dimensions----height and width----can be perceived.A world seen with one eye is thus two-dimensional,as in a photograph.
Now consider why your two eyes are on the front of your face.Think of other animals with the same arrangement. They are all animals that hunt, like lions and wolves.Their eyes face directly in front of them. This provides a field of sight about 180 degrees wide, which is called binocular(双眼的) sight. On the other hand, animals that are hunted have eyes on the sides of the head, which provides nearly360-degree field of sight. In order to stay alive, they need to see things coming from the sides and from behind. However, without stereoscopic sight, they have difficulty determining how far a danger is.
With sight both stereoscopic and binocular, humans share with animal hunters the ability to see from side to side and to accurately determine the distance. If you think it would be great to have another type of sight, perhaps with hundreds of tiny eyes like many insects do,think again! Each tiny insect eye sees only a tiny part.Besides, what if you needed glasses?Be glad for the eyesight that you have.

A camera catches an image of an object and records it on film.Similarly, when you look at something, each eye takes in what it sees and sends this image to the back of the eyeball.(相机能捕捉到图象并将其记录到胶卷中,类似地当你看着物体的时候每只眼睛都会捕捉到它说看到的然后将其送到眼球的后部).可知眼睛和照相机的共同特点是能够记录影像,故选B.
68题答案:A考查细节推理,根据文章第三段内容Seeing in stereo means seeing with two eyes working together, which is called stereoscopic sight.(立体视觉意味着用两只眼睛一起看--这被称作立体视觉).
Be glad for the eyesight that you have.(有幸拥有你的视力).可以判断作者认为人类拥有这样的眼睛是幸运的,选D.

4.There are so many different plastic cards that adults have to carry around-library cards,savings cards for different banks,credit cards,just to name a few…So why not have one to replace them all?
Scott Barnhill,an 1l-year-old fifth-grade student in the US,has come up with an idea for a"Security One Card".
Sound smart? The US Patent(专利) Office thought so,and it approved a patent for his idea in April.
Here's an example of how Barnhill's idea would work.
Let's say you have the three cards mentioned above.Instead of carrying them all,you could have just one by having additional magnetic strips(磁条) added to it.
The magnetic strips can be added to any plastic card, even a blank one.
Companies could add their information to one of the strips.For example,you could ask a library to add a strip to your bankcard.
Barnhill has a lot of hobbies,including designing websites.He got the idea at the age of 9when he saw his father using a keycard to enter their hotel room.He thought,"The hotels are wasting money with the key cards."So,instead of using a hotel-issued key card,guests could use their credit cards--if the hotel added a special magnetic strip.At check-out,the strip would simply be removed.
Now that he has his patent,his next step is a letter-writing campaign to get support from major credit card companies.
"I'm going to be writing letters to credit card companies to ask if they can co-operate.I hope they'll give me money every time someone puts a strip on the back of another card,or every time the idea is used,"Barnhill said."I'll write the letters and see what they say.If they say no,I'll ask someone else,another credit card company."
He is hoping to make money from his patent and has decided it would be better to collect royalties(专利使用费)rather than sell his patent if the idea   take off.
"The ATM person who invented that sold it totally,and if he'd chosen royalties he'd get like 2cents for every transaction (交易) and he'd be a billionaire now,"Scott said.

68.The immediate cause of Scott's invention was thatC.
A.he found that adults have to carry around so many plastic cards

C.he found even a hotel issued its own cards--keycards
D.he realized it would be a good chance to make big money

1.Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways.When people cheat,it's not fair to other people,like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.
Many people like the action of cheating.It makes difficult things seem easy.Like getting all the right answers on the test.But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won't help on the next test---unless the person cheats again.
Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them.The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade.And,if they get caught cheating,they will be in trouble at school,and may be at home,too.
Some kids cheat because they are busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying.Other kids might feel like they can't pass the test without cheating,even when there seems to be a"good reason"for cheating.
If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn't study,it would be better to talk with the teacher about this.And if you don't have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice,you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.
A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together.Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.

8.From now on,never spend your precious time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings.Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born.Only you have the power to make those seeds grow.
The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the best machine ever created:the human mind.Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You can be a success if only you make the right choice.
You cannot be successful without first developing your self-esteem(自尊).Your level of self-esteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to have over yourself, and thus over your life.People with low self-esteem are people who do not believe that they have any power,or responsibility for their lives. They are leaves tossed(摇摆) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather.
You can control your life only to the degree that you believe that you are responsible for everything that happens in your life.Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance.Successful people realize that they are responsible.
Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause,we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence.
In short,in all areas of your life, whether they are financial, physical, emotional,or spiritual, you are responsible.Once you recognize this, accept it,and firmly believe it,you are on the road to success.

18.Swimming is one of those activities that can be learned early in life.Little children can learn to swim as soon as they walk.In fact, you need the same skills in walking as in swimming. However,I believe that five is the best age to learn.By five or six,a child knows fear of water,a very important thing to know. It's wise to be afraid,to recognize true danger.Young ones understand that the water can sometimes be very dangerous.
To really benefit from swimming, every swimmer should learn,as soon as possible, these four basic strokes:butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and crawl.I feel that one of these---the breaststroke is different from the others, since some young swimmers use this stroke naturally, without any training.
In swimming there are certain rules every swimmer should follow:
1.Never swim alone! No matter how good you are in the water, don't risk drowning by swimming alone. If you swim by yourself, with no life guards or friends with you,you may get into trouble.
2.Don't go beyond your abilities. Most swimmers know enough not to swim too far from the bank or the beach.Showing off by doing dangerous tricks is no good.Swim safely and you will continue to swim and alive.
3.Don't smoke.Swimming depends on a healthy body; good lungs are part of it.
4.Work at any activity that builds muscles.

5.What makes one person more intelligent than another? What makes one person a genius, like the brilliant Albert Einstein, and another person a fool? Are people born intelligent or stupid,or is intelligence the result of where and how you live? These are very old questions and the answers to them are still not clear.
We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle. It needs exercise.Mental (done with the mind) exercise is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists (心理学家) think that parents should play with their children more often and give them problems to think about. The children are then more likely to grow up bright and intelligent. If,on the other hand, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do,they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.
Parents should also be careful with what they say to young children.According to some psychologists,if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive things to their children, such as"That was a very clever thing you did"or"You are such a smart child".
