Mr. and Mrs. Spencer both had very busy jobs and didn5t have much time to spend with their young children. They wanted to change this, and because their hobby was boating, they decided to sail round the world together.

It took six years to prepare everything for the trip. First, they bought a new boat. Then, both the husband and wife had to take advanced (先进的) sailing lessons and learn all about the sea and the weather. Mr. Spencer also did several courses in repairing engines and Mrs. Spencer spent an hour in a restaurant learning to cut up fish.

In October, they had one year off from their jobs and sailed away from England with their two children. The next year,in August, their long journey ended in Australia.

The boat was not big,but they took a teacher for the children with them. None of them found the trip boring because there were three computers, many CDs,a TV and a DVD player on the boat.

After I entered the university,I came to realize its special importance. My class provided me with a good atmosphere of studying. For some students,to remember the new words is the biggest barrier, especially now the words are more difficult than before. Actually, words come along with sentences, that is,to understand the words according to its context. Of course,it is necessary that you review it now and then;otherwise you will forget them easily. When reading,I am used to underlining some special and important phrases or write them down on the notebook so that I can find them when I review.    If someone asks you about India or Asia's great achievements, you may say,Mango!Yes,the mango (芒 果) . Today we all know that the mango is rich in vitamin (维生素) A.C andD.

How did the mango get its name? It5s an interesting story. The name mango comes from Tamil. From man-kay or man-gay,then it changed to manga. The people who gave it the name manga or mango were the Portuguese (葡萄牙人) . They first came to India, across the sea, about 500 years ago. As they started living in parts of India, they discovered the mango. They seemed to want more of it so they started experimenting with new kinds of mangoes—the famous Alphonso or Mulgoa that we like best today is the result of their hard work.

Mango is a kind of fruit which has been enjoyed for 3,000 years. Imagine, while Indians have been talking excitedly about the fruit for 3,000 years, the western world has had it for only 300 years! But how do we know that Indians have enjoyed the mango for 3,000 years?                                    Muzak

The next time you go into a bank,a store,or a supermarket, stop and listen. What do you hear? 1 It's similar to the music you listen to,but it's not exactly the same. That's because this music was especially designed to relax you,or to give you extra energy. Sometimes you dont even realise the music is playing, but you react to the music anyway.

Quiet background music used to be called “ elevator (电梯) music” because we often heard it in elevators. But lately we hear it in more and more places, and it has a new name “Muzak”. About one-third of the people in America listen to “Muzak” every da. The music plays for 15 minutes at a time, with short pauses in between. It is always more lively between ten and eleven in the morning, and between three and four in the afternoon, when people are more tired. 2

If you listen to Muzak carefully, you will probably recognise the names of many of the songs. Some musicians or songwriters don5t want their songs to be used as Muzak, but others are happy when their songs are chosen. Why? 3

Music is often played in public places because it is designed to make people feel less lonely when they are in an airport or a hotel. It has been proved that Muzak does what it is designed to do. Tired office workers suddenly have more energy when they hear the pleasant sound of Muzak in the background. 4 Supermarket shoppers buy 38 percent more groceries.

5 They say it's boring to hear the same songs all the time. But other people enjoy hearing Muzak in public places. They say it helps them relax and feel calm. One way or another,Muzak affects everyone. Some farmers even say their cows give more milk when they hear Muzak!
