In a lot of ways life is easier right now than in any other time in history. We have computers, cell phones and many devices and machines that do some of our work for us. In another way, life is more chaotic now. In general,I think we have it easier than our ancestors did.

We have more tools now than back then. LetJs say I want to make a 2,800 sq ft house today. With all the tools I have,it would take about 6 —8 months, but if you wanted to make one back then,it would take about 1. 5 —2 years. That is why life is easier.

I think kids’ lives are too easy. They are simply lazy. All they do are text and complain. We’ve all heard the stories that our parents and grandparents would tell of how hard life was when they were young, having to walk to school, having to eat salt-pack food because there were no freezers, having to cover meat in lard in order to keep it from spoiling, having to milk the cow every morning for fresh milk to drink and/or having to travel by mule for days to get to the “market” to buy something they needed.

Earlier, the kids used to die when common diseases like cholera, jaundice, etc. caught them. Now,we have medicines to treat them. So,modern life has expanded our life span. There are even medicines to treat great diseases, which helps to increase the life span of humans. Earlier people used to destroy the environment without knowing the consequences. But now we know the bad effects of it. So,today's life is much more easier and better.

Politeness or having good manners are both about respecting others and yourself.

This is still a good way to behave nowadays. If you are respectful to others, then you are more likely to be treated with respect by them.

I recently traveled home to visit my family, and to my great disappointment,it was during this trip that I realized that my 85-year-old mother Nancy, frail (虚弱) and thin, but trying her best to hide her mistakes and poor memory, had so sadly begun her quick fade into dementia (痴呆) .

In short,it hit me like a ton of bricks. She was a lovely and loving woman,my confidant and guide at times when I was most confused and helpless before. She has been my greatest source of wisdom (智慧的源泉) and support for so many years. I was quite sad that she was painful, and fell into deep dementia.

When my trip was over and I was leaving for the airport,I said a tearful goodbye to my mother, perhaps for the final time. And just like that,I felt like I would never see her again quite the same as a fully-realized adult who I could turn to to explain the world to me,and to answer my most basic questions. In fact,I was completely at a loss (不知所措) as to how my mother would be when I next saw her. How quick would her dementia be? As my plane lifted off the ground,I felt like something crucial and essential was being ripped from my heart. And I was alone and heartbroken, not just for me but also for her,and I cried as I had not been for a very long time.
