题目内容

【题目】 We all want to go somewhere — somewhere that has been on our bucket list ages.1 We often picture the scenes like four cities in seven days, “must-see’s” in Tokyofamous landmarks in Europe and so on. It’s as if the faster we’re checking things off our list, the more we are experiencing.

2 Traveler, the South Korean reality show, can perhaps give us some idea of what travel is like Traveler's travelers don't have a mission and there isn’t a competition for them to win.

Instead, it focuses on “depicting (描绘) the real experience of traveling by showing the processes of finding a place to stay or grabbing (拦下) a taxi”, according to The Korea Times. 3 It isn’t about getting or not getting somewhere as quickly as possible, but about simply being excited as you’re getting there or not getting there at all.

4 You may ignore the guidebook’s recommendation and ask local people where they prefer to eat and hang out. And you’ll be surprised by what a place has to offer when you’re not busy rushing around and checking things off your bucket list.

Travel is just like life. There is little fun in it if everything is predictable. 5 But as travel blog CheeseWeb puts it, as long as you keep an open mind, you’ll see that “everywhere is ‘somewhere”’.

A.It’s true that we all want to go “somewhere”.

B.But do you know what you are experiencing?

C.Why not stop rushing you off your feet and slow down?

D.This is actually the concept of what’s called “slow travel”.

E.So, we tend to squeeze as many sights into our trip as possible.

F.You may try to wander off the main road and take a back street instead.

G.However, concerning it’s probably not quantity that counts but quality.

5

故选A项。

【题目】阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I looked forward to a visit with my mom, who lived 2,000 miles from my home in California. Since Mom was 80 and suffered from Alzheimer’s (阿兹海默症), I realized how important it was to see her again soon.

Mom received loving care from the Sister Servants of Christ the King at a 40-bed, basic-care facility (场所) in Edgeley, North Dakota. She lived in a simple room, spent most of her day doing simple things, and seemed to be “all right, “considering that dementia (痴呆) had set in.

When Mom came in, I smiled, hugged and kissed her, and said, “Nice to see you, Mom.” She didn’t recognize who I was! I was shocked.

Stressed out, I spent several hours trying to connect with my mother—talking with her, walking around the grounds, looking at family pictures in her room, chatting with the nuns (修女) —doing whatever I could think of to help Mom recognize her son. I hoped for a recognition “wonder”. But nothing I said or did worked, I was very annoyed.

The next morning, I suddenly had an idea. I thought of something that might stir her memory (记忆).I thought of strawberry milkshake (草莓奶昔). Yes, strawberry milkshake in Edgeley, North Dakota. So I took Mom to the Edgeley Coffee Shop. I wanted to treat her here. While Mom was looking at the menu, I took Sandy, the waitress, aside, quietly told her of Mom’s dementia condition and my plan to recall her long-term memory, and ordered two strawberry milkshakes.

The first paragraph: When Sandy delivered the milkshakes, I was too nervous to say a word.

The second paragraph: There’s a simple explanation for Mom’s memory.

注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。

【题目】 It doesn't take decades of life experience to have a great idea, as many of these young inventors have proved.

The Electronic Television

The electronic television was first designed by a 14-year-old kid in 1920. Philo Taylor Farnsworth shared his concept of an image transmitting (影像传送) device, an early design of the electronic television, with his science teacher, drawing diagrams on several blackboards in class.

By the age of 21 Farnsworth had a working model which served as a basis to all later development and versions of electronic televisions, After discovering a collection of technology magazines in the attic (阁楼) of his family's new home, he developed a passion and interest in electronics, which led him to explore inventions in the field of, specifically, the image transmission.

In 1927, a few years out of high school, Farnsworth was the first inventor to transmit a television image of a dollar sign, composed of 60 horizontal lines.

Braille Language

Louis Braille suffered a serious eye injury when he was just 3 years old. Not only did the accident cause him blindness on that side, but the infection spread and blinded the other eye as well. After more than a decade of struggling with the slow system of tracing his finger over raised letters, Braille was 12 when he learned of a method of silent communication originally created for the French military. He simplified it, and in 1824 the Braille language was born.

Popsicles (冰棍)

A lot of kids are easily distracted (分散注意力)—and thanks to the short attention span of 11-year-old Frank Epperson we now have popsicles. In 1905, Epperson, a San Francisco native, was stirring powdered drink mix into a cup of water when something else caught his attention. The mixture was forgotten outside the door, and when Epperson rediscovered the drink in the morning, it was a deliciously portable frozen popsicle. 【题目】Learning from Leonardo

Yes, Leonardo Da Vinci was a genius. 1 However, we can learn from him and try to be more like him.

Be constantly curious.

Leonardo actually did have special talents, but his distinguishing and most inspiring quality was his strong curiosity. He wanted to know what causes people to yawn and how light is processed in the eye. 2Being constantly and randomly curious about everything around us is something that each of us can push ourselves to do, every waking hour, just as he did.

Seek knowledge itself.

Not all knowledge needs to be useful. 3 By allowing himself to be driven by pure curiosity, he got to explore more horizons and see more connections than anyone else of his times.

4

When Leonardo came up with an idea, he designed an experiment to test it. When his experiment showed that a theory was flawed (瑕疵的), he abandoned his theory and sought a new one. If we want to be more like Leonardo, we have to be fearless about changing our minds based on new and real information.

Take notes on paper.

Five hundred years later, Leonardo's notebooks are around to astonish and inspire us.5 This way, fifty years from now, our own notebooks, will also be around to astonish and inspire our grandchildren, unlike our tweets and Facebook posts.

A.Show respect to facts.

B.You'd better show interest in writing.

C.We may never be able to match his talents.

D.Work up the enthusiasm to start writing them.

E.Sometimes it should be learned for pure pleasure.

F.Merely a small part of knowledge can be applied to practice.

G.Also, he instructed himself to learn about the light of the moon.
